Yes, but that doesn't make it any less of a bad idea.

If you don't have the money to do it right now, where will it come from when the V8 tears the V6 trans apart?
You'll need a V8 bellhousing, a V8 flywheel, and a clutch from an S10. If you baby it, you might get to enjoy the miserable V6 gear ratios for a while before it breaks.
Searching will turn up all the details.

If your budget is that tight you're better off waiting a while longer to get the better transmission, in the end you'll sped less. Trust me, been there done that, got the t-shirt.

Also, since this is not APR related I'm moving this to transmission board.

Re: does anyone make adapter for v6 to v8 5-speed tranny swap?
i really do appreciate everyones advice as i know it
has to be the best way.
but since i am only building a cruiser, and not a race car i think it should hold up just fine.
i don't plan on burning my tires off either, been there and it was fun,but i
am older now and have no need to impress anyone.
the tranny has took plenty more punishment in a v6 than i will ever give it
in the v8 if i decide to go that route.
i have found a really nice looking 88 camaro with a 350,5-speed now and
just wonder if it has been converted this way?
i don't want to buy one that has been done like i am asking info on.
if i do it that way ok,but i don't want one someone else has done the same short cut with.
i like knowing what is in my cars, whatever it may be.
the v6 i am thinking of getting tranny out of is a really kept up car that i thought i was gonna have trouble getting title for.
i just found out today that i am gonna be able to get the title so i think i will just leave it alone.
so i guess my next adventure will be finding a taken care of 5-speed v8 car.
paint is no worry, but i don't want one that needs new door hinge kits, steering column problems, etc.
they tend to be the cars that are driven to death and just used up.
looking for one that is tight, but not perfect.

After doing some homework (and scoring a V6 T5 for a friend for $50), I have come up with this:
You'll need:
V8 T5 bellhousing/fork/throwout bearing
4.3 S10 clutch disc
V8 Camaro pressure plate
I think it'll work just fine, personally.

Re: does anyone make adapter for v6 to v8 5-speed tranny swap?
I did this with my Camaro because I didn't have the money to swap to a V8 trans nor could I find one within a reasonable distance from my house. Its held up just fine for 2 summers now and through 7k miles. I don't baby it, but I don't abuse it either. In all fairness I should probably mention that I completely rebuilt the T5 while it was out.
With that being said, I do plan to eventually swap it out for a T56. First gear is also real short, I find myself shifting to second almost immediately with my stock 3.42 rear. I'll be putting in a 3.73 rear this winter and I expect that to become a lot worse.

You got me there!
I'd bet it'd be much worse with the 3.73s in there. Good to know someone has tried it and verified that it WILL work. I get so sick of people saying "It won't work because it'll just blow up; it can't handle the V8 power." To my knowledge, its the same basic setup, just with different gearing, its not like the V8 T5 is STRONGER physically, its just better suited to handle the power via gearing.

That being said, I don't think its much of a difference. I also forgot to mention one important detail on the swap. The input shaft nose of the V6 T5 is slightly longer than the V8 version. It's only about 3/16", but its enough that if you don't remove the excess you will crack the bellhousing when you try to bolt everything together(take a guess at how I know that). I just used my angle grinder with a cutoff wheel to take off about 2 blade thicknesses(think thin cutting discs, not the real thick grinding wheel) and then used it to put the chamfer back on the end of the input shaft.
BTW, power estimates for my engine are 301HP and 386TQ using Desktop Dyno. Its certainly not a drag strip engine by any stretch, but pulls out great from corners and stop lights if I can keep the wheel from spinning and is enough for me for right now. Once I get the brakes and rear suspension upgraded I'll think about upping the power levels.
