700R4 Hard Shift

Trying to figure it out.

From P to R or D it'll give a hard thump feel, basically my idea of a hard shift i guess. But while driving in Reverse or from 1,2,3 & OD I have no issues.

Anyone else experience this issue?

Re: 700R4 Hard Shift

I had the same issue after I replaced my tv cable It turns out that the one I bought was bad, but I fixed it,and I have no problems now. The cable would get caught inside the cable housing and cause high line pressures within the transmission. Does it shift hard while you drive too?

hmm, doesn't have a hard shift feel just a bit of a drop from rpm to shift, mid 3k to shift and gives a slight feel like its a stick powershifting :P haha

I did notice on & off that my shift indicator is off a bit, sometimes its good sometimes its not always on the right spot

Re: 700R4 Hard Shift

Before I fixed mine, the shifts were late and hard. Now she shifts like a dream. I would jsut check out your tv cable, and maybe readjust it. If you know how...it's simple.

Re: 700R4 Hard Shift

TO adjust the tv cable:

All while that car is NOT running...

1. Find the tv cable and push in the silver button on the side of it and hold it in.
2. Push the black slider part in (the part that the cable itself comes out of) push it in toward the button you are holding.
3. Release the button, and go inside the car and floor the gas pedal. You should hear it click a few times as it is "ratcheting out".

NOTE" Make sure the cable is not adjusted all the way out, and make sure there is no slack on the cable. It must be tight. If the cable is sticking out or adjusted out too far, the cable is sticking.

Re: 700R4 Hard Shift

No, the tv cable is a separate cable that goes from the throttle body to the transmission. You have a 305 just like me, so the tv cable will be attacked at the throttle lever at the bottom. If you look there should be two cables connecting to the throttle body on the driver side. The bottom one is the tv cable.

Re: 700R4 Hard Shift

That bottom thin silver cable is your tv cable. From what it looks like it's not adjusted. Unless that IS the correct adjustment point. Just try to adjust it like I said earlier and take another picture of it.

If you are standing on the driver side of the car, the button will be facing away from you. It isn't really a button per say, but acts the same way. If you look where the tv cable is mounted int eh bracket, you will see a silver "D" shaped metal part. That is the "button".

The picture I attached should help you out a lot.

Re: 700R4 Hard Shift

i had a similar problem when i shifted gears at high rpms or sometimes when just shifting gears i got a big thump right back near the back seats. turned out to to be the transmission mount was ripped apart. replaced it and it was fine (well actually the crappy napa one i put in first tore in half in about 2 days, so i had to get a high performance one)
