Gov loc vs posi
I have a 92 Camaro RS with stock 2.73 rear end. I want to put in 3.73 posi.
After looking i noticed some say gov loc and some say posi. What is the difference and the pros and cons or are the mostly the same.
Also looking to buy a 10 bolt 3.73 posi, 28 spline. Thanks

You don't want the Gov Lock. This was designed for stock GM trucks and just barely works well in them. It only works when one wheel starts to spin, then the governor turhns a cam that applies pressure to the clutches. The governor has a small gear on the end of it that breaks easily, and then the unit no longer works. In some extreme cases they actually break through the center and blow parts all over the place.
The Auburn was also used in the 3rd gen Camaros. It usually doesn't last long if you abuse it, and it fills the rear end with powdered metal as it wears. It can not be rebuilt and when it wears out you usually have to replace all of the bearings because of the metal that ran through them.
The Eaton Posi is a much stronger and better differential. It was designed for high performance cars.

Google much? Posi is short for Positraction which was Chevrolet's 1960s term for a limited-slip differential, or LSD. The Gov-Lock was a type of LSD which is deemed the safest to drive in the most different situations by the broadest range of car buyers. But it is not very strong, and it is difficult to rebuild. Most other traction diffs require a bit more care in certain circumstances, which vary depending on which type you choose. Otherwise you're more likely to lose control of the car. What you want depends on what you plan to do with the car, and what you expect the car to do in response. Street-only? street and drag racing? Street and autocrossing? Some of everything? Summer only, or good in snow? You need to answer all of these before choosing. Someone will post "Eaton" but the Eaton is not best for everything.

Yea, Eaton also covers a lot of different differentials. Eaton bought out Trac Tech, so now the Truetrac and Detroit Locker fall under Eaton along with the Eaton Posi, the Eaton Governor Lock and the Eaton E Locker.
