Re: rear mount turbo

That's a common response here (although not as common as it used to be ), seriously though there's a stickey called 'How to: Installing a Turbo' at the top of this forum with tons of info.

Re: rear mount turbo

I've been looking for a kit myself. I know it can be done, but the problem is finding a kit. Best way that I see is fabricating one. Hard to do for those of us without a full shop at our disposal.

Re: rear mount turbo

Most of the guys who fab one up do so in the driveway. The problem with this design I would think would be the rediculously long turbo lag but it would be the easiest to set up I would think.

If you use the correct size tubing, the turbo lag shouldn't be that bad. The amount of pipe to go back to the intake is typically the same volume as a good size air-to-air intercooler.

The major problem is oiling. I would run a smal resevoir in back with a seperate pump.

There is a guy on here who made a thread where he set a turbo like that on his cavalier. It worked but he said that the lag was like 2 sec.

Re: rear mount turbo

89jyturbo is his name and has a bazillion page thread in the power adder section...

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/powe...unt-turbo.html

Oil is pumped back to the engine via pump.

Why make a rear mount when there is so much room in front of the engine?

If you are serious about buying a kit, I can make you one of these, PM me if interested...

----------
Turbo in pic is for sale as well, the rest of the kit was sold to GrimmCS.

Re: rear mount turbo

In all honesty, I think the system sucks. Every STS car I have ran into on the street has been dog slow for a "Turbocharged" car. Most of them Ls1's that maybe ran low 12's. I hate when they say "Turbocharged Ls1". They need to say "STS Turbocharged Ls1" so everyone knows why it just got beat by a turbocharged Honda CRX.

The cavaliar ran 14.97, which is cool for a cavalier, but I have seen faster ones then that with a s/c. I suggest looking for a front mounted turbo system before a rear one. Just because its easy, doesn't make it better.

89jyturbo's Cavalier has gone 12.5, and the best N/A Cavilier that I know of has gone 13.7x with a full 3500 swap.

And yes a turbo mounted at the endo of a set of headers(or y-pipe) will be much more efficient and with more power.

As far as the cost of a turbo kit, you are looking at somewhere around $2k for a complete system depending on I/C selection, quality of parts, new/used parts etc. You guys can PM me about that.

BTW, I'm planning on ahveing over 250hp to the wheels N/A, let's just see if the car can hook

Re: rear mount turbo

Anymore details on cavalier? The thread I read, when he first put the STS kit on, he ran a best of 14.97. Sort of interested on what he added to cut his time.

I'm trying just to get 225hp. If you could tell me what you did to get 250 N/A I would be extremely grateful. I'm not really want to go turbo unless I have to. How close are you to finishing?

Mine is a 3.4 with a 3500 top end. A 3500 with similar mods just chassis-dynoed over 270 at the wheels (315 at the crank)...

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/4...ts-hybrid.html

I'm working on kits for the older 3.1/2.8 platform to use newer 3x00 heads. The DIS (distribultorless ignition system) is the biggest hurdle with the distributor-driven 3rdgen 60 degree v6 engines (ECM and coil pack conversion).
