Coil keeps burning out
I bought an 84 camaro 2.8 about six months ago, Since then I rebuilt the carb, put on a new ignition system, and put on a new starter. Before i did all the work the car ran fine but it needed the tune up. Now it wont start and keeps burning out coils. I rechecked all my wiring and it all seems to be fine. I cant think of anything else that could be wrong except a short. Any ideas???

I see you havent gotten any suggestions yet?..maybe tell us some more info ..what exactly did you replace when you did the ignition system?.It sounds like you have some wires crossed or missed a few that were supposed to be hooked up?..tell me what does the Olympic edition have that a regular camaro doesnt?

I put on a new dizzy cap and rotor, ignition molecule, wires+ plugs, and coil. The olympic edition just has the standard v6 in it nothing special. I rechecked my wiring a couple times and i polished the contact points b/c of corruption and they fit up nice.

When you put the ignition module in ..did you apply the electric grease between the module and distributor base before you installed it?

I checked the grounds and they were all good. I put on the electrical grease that came with the molecule. I checked the spark and it was still yellow, but when i was cranking I saw a spark jump from the alternator to the fender so I'm not sure what that was all about.

take a volt meter and unhook the positive batt cable take the neg lead of the volt metter and conect it to the pos side of the battery, then take the positive lead and connect it to the batter cable see if u get a voltage readin with the doors closed and key off.if u get any reading u have a short somewere
oh btw make sure the hood light is off or it will give a reading,

ok. Ill have to try that tommorow. Im sure it happened because there was two of us that saw it im just not really sure how it happened. Im thinking that something happened with the alternator and maby it shorted out when that spark shot out of it.
