245-50-16 and 255-50-16 There getting hard to find any good spots?

I run the 245-50-16 in the front and the 255-50-16 in the rear, I used to run BFgoodrich Comp ta ZR rated tires can't seem to find them. the 245 size is easier then the 255 size to find any good spots? thanks

I think that BFG makes the sport tires in that 255/50...but I think that they are the only ones in that size.

Yup, also Falken tires in 255-50-16 in 512 series. I've searched and only found those 2 brands that offer that size.

i work at discount tire. and bfg quit making that zr tire. a while back. that particular size still exsists however it is mainly a special order tire now and days. i know kumho, bgf, nitto, falken, yokohama (i believe), and michelin all make tires this size. it just has to be ordered.

I can't understand why the 16" rim is so hard to find decent tire sizes in. A lot of performance cars (camaros, rustangs) were made with them for quit some time. Why does nobody make a decent width tire over 255 for that size?

I wish there was like a 275 50 or 45 too, but I guess they just dnot make them. If anyone is interested I put sumitomos on mine in 245/255 - not that I think they are the best tire, but because they were really inexspensive, I got them at the tirerack.com

Toyo has a Drag radial 275-45-16 called the Toyo TQ.

because the are only 8" rims, you can only go so wide before you need a wider wheel. there is a decent selection of larger than stock diameter drag radials available.

How long ago did you get them? I can't seem to find any sumitomo in p 255-50-16.Tirerack doesn't carry that size anymore.

At the moment I cant remember if it was last summer or the summer before. It might have been 2 sumers ago. The sidwalls read sumitomo, HTR 50Z.

Well I just went on the tire rack, and I didn't see them either. The one HTR looked like it was the same tread pattern but it was only listed in like 4 sizes. They might have stoped making them. I think they are either "ultra high performance" or "high performance" summer tire. At the time I bought them, I looked at them at sears becuase they carried them also, but the funny thing was at Sears they were really expensive - like sears was selling them at prices like they were a super good tire, but then on the tirerack.com they were the cheap tires.

Re: 245-50-16 and 255-50-16 There getting hard to find any good spots?

Had to order my 255/50/16 bfg g force zr tires i got about 6 months ago.Bad thing is when you order you dont get road hazard even if ordered from a tire store.I think I paid 130/tire.I did get a nail in my tire a week later and went back and asked why they never offered me road hazard. They said cause price of special order tires go up and down. They did however patch my tire for free when I said they could have warned me.

Tire rack shows them for $116.00 right now.

firestone offers the wideoval in the 245/50r16 size the website shows 113 each, but i'm sure they'd come down.

Is a 255 tire dangerous to run on a stock 8 inch wide 16 inch diameter IROC rim?

Wow that's amazing! Bigger tires are always better for handling/traction! They should make more tires with this size like the GY Eagle F1 GS-d3's... They make 255/45/17 but only 245/50/16... I really want those tires but would like the 255 version! Oh well, how do the G-Force sport tires do compared to the GS-d3's?

as someone mentioned above, I was looking at the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval in 245/50r16 and I think they had them in 255/50r16 also. They are sold on Tirerack.com.

And the reviews of them aren't that encouraging. I've got some similar Hankook Ventus tires on my car (which I've owned a whopping two weeks) and I haven't driven it enough to comment on them but they seem decent in dry street conditions.

For me Tire Rack only showed 7 tires available in 255/50/16.

BFGoodrich G-Force Sport
Yokohama AVID V4S
BFGoodrich G-Force T/A Drag Radial 2
Hankook Ventus Z214 (C51 Medium)
Hankook Ventus Z214 (C71 soft)
Hoosier A6
Hoosier R6

In 245/50/16 it shows a few more options. 11 to be specific.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
BFGoodrich G-Force Sport
Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500
Fuzion ZRi
Yokohama AVS ES100
BFGoodrich G-Force Super Sport A/S
Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position
Hankook Ventus V4 ES H105
Kumho Ecsta ASX
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
Goodyear Eagle RS-A

For me Tire Rack only showed 7 tires available in 255/50/16.

BFGoodrich G-Force Sport
Yokohama AVID V4S
BFGoodrich G-Force T/A Drag Radial 2
Hankook Ventus Z214 (C51 Medium)
Hankook Ventus Z214 (C71 soft)
Hoosier A6
Hoosier R6

In 245/50/16 it shows a few more options. 11 to be specific.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
BFGoodrich G-Force Sport
Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500
Fuzion ZRi
Yokohama AVS ES100
BFGoodrich G-Force Super Sport A/S
Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position
Hankook Ventus V4 ES H105
Kumho Ecsta ASX
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
Goodyear Eagle RS-A
Hello 87WS6!!

Drive the tires off the car, and let me know how they hold up!!

I'm looking for some 245/50/16 "w" speed rated tires!!

I was "thinking" about giving the hankook tires a try.......again I was only thinking!!

From what i've heard/read, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's are as good as you'll get on the street for handling/traction (wet traction as well) for 245/50/16. After that, slicks are next level. My friend has these and they are insane for handling/traction, he launched and broke an axle with these!

I got the 255/50zr16 BFG sports on all 4 wheels and I love them. Like Goodyears, they are wider than other brands.

Just stay away from Falkens Ziexs. They blow out, separate, fall apart....in the first year. I didn't pick them, they were on the car.

I didn't pick the Hankook Ventus tires either. They came with the car. I wouldn't choose them regardless because they are a Korean company. I don't give money to other countries when I can easily avoid it. You can't when it comes to many if not most products, but when it comes to tires I can at least avoid Hankook. My research shows the Goodyear, BFG Goodrich and Firestone offerings are better anyway.

I have my own verbal and written crutches so don't take this as me being a total jerk, but I'm sure you aren't actually super-excited about everything you write. Just thought I'd make you aware that you appear to use "!!" in place of a period regularly and it kinda gives the impression that you're an overly-excited lunatic.

Thats scary. I was just at Les Schwab last summer and they had BF Goodrich KD TAs and Comp TAs in both sizes. This stupid "bigger is better" tire fad is getting ridiculous. Killing sizes on decent tires below 17". Soon the cut off will be 18" or 20".

It really is getting stupid. I don't want to put 20" wheels on my car. Hell I prefer the 16" black GTA style rims over anything else on our cars.

I totally agree... But apparently bigger chromed up / polished wheels help sell cars these days. I don't mind a bit of a lower profile like 245/45/17 instead of 245/50/16 but it depends what you want the car for. Those two sizes are acceptable, but too stiff a sidewall and your traction is crap, and too tall a tire and your handling suffers, so it's a tradeoff, but finding a balance is the most important thing

I had great luck with mine, and would go with Falkens again. Previous owner may have abused them by running low or bumping too many curbs. Mine were still holding up after I hit a curb at 50mph (thank you jerk in the work van for pulling otu in front of me). They held up the 20 miles home with the alignment all out of wack as well. Handled way better than the GForce Sports that I had and hooked up twice as good. I think you just had a bad experience with someones beat up tires.

This set I have deserves to be on a show car somewhere, instead of being laid down on the pavement. I have the original ZR 50 Goodyear Eagle in 245/50/15. For sale too. I want some tires I can use. PM me. Used only on a show car 15,000 miles.

you should go ahead and make a post in the classifieds section. I'm sure someone would be interested in them.

Re: 245-50-16 and 255-50-16 There getting hard to find any good spots?

I have BFG G-Force Sports 245/50/16 on my fronts, and 255/50/16 rear, they fit PERFECT. unfortunately, now they're going bald, had them for a few years. been watching availability on Tire Rack and everywhere else for them, haven't been available for months now. the 255 is really the more rare size.

I think I have to finally bite the bullet and step up to 17's at least.

I don't think I have permission to post in classifieds. I have pm the moderators, I have been posting a lot since joining this group, I'm here for the right reasons and don't start trouble, etc. I wonder someone else would post it for me? I am not trying to make money on these tires, I just wish I hadn't bought them because they are not for tearing them up, I need tires I can USE ya know what I mean.

Re: 245-50-16 and 255-50-16 There getting hard to find any good spots?

NOTICE, less than 10,000 miles not 15K...... they're from 1997 NOT 1987. I made a huge mistake not listening to the seller of these tires. I called him today to see if he would buy them back, and he told me AGAIN that the tires are from 1997. I often don't listen well. Anyways, the date is on the tires he told me he had no reason to hide anything..... I just want around $300 negotiable; for the tires.I would sell the GTA rims with them for $700. Let me know, it's a great looking combo, but my car needs REAL TRACTION which probably no street tire will do for me.
