295/50/15's on stock 15" Z28 Rims?

My 82' Z28 has the stock 15 inch rims in the front and back. The rear tires are currently 275/50/15s, but those are next to impossible to find anymore. So I want to go even bigger to a 295/50/15 rear tire. I have easy access to some 295/50/15s, but if I buy them there is no returning them. So my question is this: will 295/50/15 tires fit on a stock 15" z28 rim? Or will the tire be to wide for the rim? I'd hate to sink $300 into two 295/50/15s only to find out the tire is too wide for the rim. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

DO NOT DO THIS! 295s are way too big for a 7 inch rim. Even the 275s are way too big. The absolute max you should be going is 245, however, I would recommend 235/60/15s. If you want to run tires that big, get wider rims.

A 295/50 calls for a minimum rim width of 8". I wouldnt do it.

I purchased a 80 Z28 and it came with third gen Z wheels that had 295/50/15 front and rear. The tires bulged off the rim ALOT and rubbed in the front during turns. I wouldnt due it, but there they are sitting in my back yard still mounted. I can post a pic if you really want to see or just wanna laugh

275s seem to work just fine for me at least. I've put 1,000 miles on my 82 Z28 since I bought it, and the 275s that it came with have run like champs. The only reason I'm replacing them is because they are balding.

Could you post a picture? I'd like to see them. Sounds like I need to invest in some 15x10 rims, but I would at least like to see what 295s on stock Z28 rims would look like.

Its more than just looking funny. Putting too wide a tire on a narrow rim is unsafe. Even a 295 on a 8" wide rim kinda makes the car feel like its floating.

Re: 295/50/15's on stock 15" Z28 Rims?

They will fit on a 15X8, but I think they would ride much better on a 15X10. My brothers TA had 295/50's on 15X8's and I drove on them for a few days. You could feel the back of the car move around a little because the tire is bubbled.

Dont forget though, they wont fit up front. They would be for the back only. And if your looking at the BF Goodrich Radial TA's, they are just for looks. They dont hook up at all. Even my friends stock 305 TBI can spin them no problem, with a 3.42 geared rear with posi.

Yeah its just for looks, my Camaro is retired from the drag strip and is now a daily driver. The 295/50's are only for a more aggressive look.

On another note, does anyone know of a good 15x10 rim? I'd love some people to suggest some rims to me!

The tire bulges off 2" per side, 4" total on a 7" wide rim!!

This is what a 295/50r15 looks like on a 15in.x 8in. wheel.(the front are 235/60r15s on a 15x7in. wheel) The BS on the rear is off some(live and learn) but you can still get the idea by looking at mine.I will be running 255s in the rear soon until I can pick up a set of Weld Prostars. By the way the "Weld Prostars" are what I recommend if your looking to keep the 1/4mi. stance/look.

Re: 295/50/15's on stock 15" Z28 Rims?

Wow guys, thank you SO MUCH for all your help. One last question, what is the bolt pattern on a 82' Z28 Camaro? Is it 5x4.75 (inches) or 5 x 120.7 (millimeters) or is it something completely different?

EDIT: It is 5x4.75" like I thought.
