Eaton M112 Runs!

I can't believe it !

Thank ***!

I cranked it up a few times today.. I suspect the tuning to be way off because it surges at an idle.

There is one big problem

It is increadibly loud! I can barely hear over the thing.. its very painfully loud I'm unsure if its because i don't have a air cleaner on it or what but you can distinctly hear it from inside the house. Its even scareing the crap out of the pets. I"m going to call the people who rebuilt it and see what they have to say about it tomarrow.

Hey SATURN5... If you would mind i would like to talk to you and see what you think about the loudness of this thing... prehaps you can give me a call or I call you.

dont those have lobes that can be damaged by debris? I would get an aircleaner on there asap. my blower ingested a small piece of lint and i thought it was going to fall apart! lol.

Not sure if it has one but did you fill the synchro gear lube reservoir (with the right stuff, to the correct level)? I bet they make a LOT of noise just before the synchro gears shred themselves.

If the lobes were hitting eachother or the case you'd know it instantly- it would lock up tight as a drum.

Alvin,
Did you call the Canadians? What did they say? Did you get the boost gauge figured out? I really hope the changes to the upper will make it fit under the stock hood. I think she looks best that way and it will make for one hell of a sleeper.

I have heard the sound over the phone and it is more than lobe "break-in". The best I can describe is a girl screaming at the to of her lounges. I listened to it for about 30sec and had to take the phone away from my ear. It was really starting to hurt.

I know very little about Eaton SC. What is the M112 off of, and is it big enought to adequatly power a 350? Just curious.

I called the guys and they said a good bit of noise is normal but i took the upper intake off and found a ton of heavy SC oil over the back of the blades and the blower makes a nice grind when you turn it over by hand now..

i'm mailing it back tomarrow and fixing it up for me

IIRC the M112 is used on the 03 Cobra's and on the Lightnings.

That sucks man. Did they give you a turn-around time? I knew something was bad wrong, I just hoped it was something simple.

Just to let you guys know..

Someone is planing on stealing this idea from me and marketing the kit.

I'm deeply deeply offended by this and have one thing to say...

jeez... i know how you feel.

I took the upper intake off and found a ton of nasty supercharger oil everywhere and excessive bearing noise that wasn't there before i installed the blower.

The bearing i'm referring to is the one on the back of the blower furthest away from the pulleys

That sucks killing the blower like that. I know from frustration on stuff like that.

I got back my 142 after locking it up a few months back (also mysterious circumstances) and bolted it back on. Started it up. Fired immediately and then I saw HUGE clouds of oil smoke out the exhaust a few seconds later. Shut down and popped the carb and blower back off to have a good look. Couldn't find anything wrong so I thought something happened to the motor internally. I decided (after a few beers) that the only honorable thing to do was to run it till it blew up. Put it all back together. Started it and revved it up near redline a few times. Oil clouds slowly went away.

Turns out there was a LOT of assembly lube and stuff all over inside the blower from the rebuild process. Hundreds of miles later- runs fine, no oil on the plugs at all, nothing out the pipes. I was a lot more lucky than you were.

The coating on the rotors is not absolutely necessary for it’s operation. The older M series blowers do not have it (the rotors on my brother’s M90 are uncoated). The coating was added later to take up some of the tolerances and build a fraction more boost at the same rpm. I really doubt that fuel would hurt it, but if it did it would be easy enough to strip off the rotors. Based on what I’ve seen, the coated rotors work better at low rpm’s where the uncoated ones work better at high rpm’s.

My bigger worry would be the case bearings, I don’t believe (from disassembling them) that they have correct seals on them to prevent gas from getting in and dissolving any lubrication.

There might exist correct bearings since Magnusson does have carbed prototypes running (I’ve been thinking of doing something similar with a TBI truck and one of these).

FWIW, the lube that eaton uses in it’s gear case is some seriously nasty and expensive stuff. I’ve tried vacuuming it out using a mighty vac and it ruined the tubing and container. If you’re looking for the lube for cheaper (ford sells it for like $20 per bottle, and you need 2 or more), GM’s price is half of ford’s.

I don't get why the majority of the oil and tephlon was at the air input side of the blower when the oil is kept at the other end.

As SATURN5 can testify something was definately wrong with my unit.. it was so loud the niebhors heard it it was really really loud

I believe you that it was messed up, but I'm telling you that without some intake wizardry all your neighbors for miles around will know exhactly what that thing sounds like... check out the movie that I posted in the CZ28.com thread.

yeah i know... after talkign to SATURN5 i guess its ineveitable.

I really want this thing somewhat quiet. Hopefully with a long intake down and maybe a paper filter inside a airbox it might quiet it down a bit

My M112 has sound baffles in the output, i know the M90 doesn't also my throttle body is ahead of the blower.. maybe without overdriving the blower too i can be a little more quiet

i can only hope that its quiet under part throttle and idle.

Is your bothers at least somewhat quiet at an idle?

Remember also that the case that he’s using has been heavily ported, the inlet has almost 2x the cross sectional area and every sound deadening ridge/slot in that case has been cutout in an effort to maximize flow. That one is one of the ones that you see Mike Sitar porting on his site and we cut a lot more out of it then he did.

Is it quiet at idle? Well, quieter then at WOT… like I already mentioned, minimal exhaust and turndowns behind a healthy engine and you can’t hear the exhaust (with the turn downs we did get the change that the pavement and floorpan throbs with the idle, but you can’t hear what’s causing that throbbing. Of course, I bitch about it much more then he does, but I think that he should try to make it sound as much a sleeper as it looks.

Loud at WOT I can beleive- I can hear my 142 screaming it's lungs out EASILY over the 2 chamber flowmasters. Idle, though, it's quiet as a church mouse. And there's little "sound deadening" other than the closed throttle plates.

What makes this particular Easton unit so loud?
