yes that looks like the old martin turbo system the turbo is a Rayjay (rayjay became or was absorbed by Turbonetics and I think they can rebuild them. This kit eventually or one almost identical to it was produced by Accel in the 70's. Accel used the same turbo even. Putting one in a thirdgen could be a nightmare. That system looks fairly played out and was designed to fit into larger 70's chassis and engine bays. I have seen one on a pick up and one on a El Camino ('cruck'). there was a guy buying a 2nd gen camaro posting here that test drove a car at a used dealership with one on it and he said it flew. both the truck and the cruck I saw flew. As a matter of fact the El Camino had only a junkyard 350, that turbo system, and no posi. He tried to race me and did a 1/4 mile 1 legged burnout instead. That cruck was like driving on ice after he got a posi for it. But he had no idea about fuel quality, timing needs, oil supply needs, etc and still drove it for years without a failure, until it eventually lunched the junkyard motor. I figure a careful knowlegable person could have even more success. My problem with this kit in the auction is that it is so 'fugly'. These are also un-intercooled. I wouldnt bet my whole wad on it. It might make an interesting project for a second ride. I still get the feeling that with a little skill and some research a person could build a similar performing kit with some E-bay Diesel takeoff components that could work perform similarly if not better. Tom find out more on this kit use your favorite search engine using the words turbo, martin and rajay, or some combination of them.

wow thanks for the info that was alot like what I was looking for... I was thinking of it for my 85 C-10 pickup so it has plenty of under hood space. I was mainly looking at it becasue of the exhaust manifold, I didnt know if other brand turbos would be able to bolt to it. Do you happen to know why that intake manifold is included with it? I dont know why it would be needed to make the turbo work. It looks liek something else bolts to the one side of where the carb bolts. The auction went up higher then I would liek to pay for it now tho, but I will kee an eye out for them from now on??

it is a drawthrough turbo setup, wherein the air is pulled through the carburetor, then into the compressor, and then the compressed air is forced into that intake manifold.

the guy could have had alot better pictures, it would have been alot easier to explain.

I totally understand what you mean. I am just starting my research for my project, that is the first time I have seen a setup like that. Would itnt it be more effecient to just have the turbo suck from the atmosphere and blow directly into the carb? That is what kind of set up I am trying to put together. I just need to construct manifolds.

I know this is a little behind but I have the same Martin system and the manifold has a set of flaps internally that close during boost and redirect flow through the turbo. The RayJay turbo has seals so a wet mixture will not harm it and the whole concept was designed back in the carb days so you would not loose low speed driveability from a long draw through and it could be bolted on and ready in a weekend. The boost is controlled by a boost valve in the intake that recycled excess boost back into the turbo. What the e-bay kit isn't including is the supplied super rich Q-Jet metering rods and the water injection kit. You can shim the boost valve with washers up to 15 psi and my Martin kit on a 307 with a 4 speed in a 67 Camaro kicked the **** out of what people thought was a good running 70 model 454 Chevelle with a 125 hp NOS kit back in the day during a heads up back road drag race.
At 15 PSI a motor thinks it's twice as big as it is.

I actually had that same Martin turbo system in my hands today, a friend of mine bought one for a song a while ago, since it seemed "like a good deal", and I keep trying to convince hime to intsll it on something, like his SBC S-10, but so far it's taking a little coaxing. hehe

I didn't see the 2 manifold to turo ducts that are required for teh system to work. It seems like a prett cool idea, where in non supercjarged conditions the carb feeds the engine directly, through the aforementioned flaps under the carb, and then once boost comes in, the flaps close, very cool idea. The only problem with this is that there is no efficiant way to intercool the set-up.

I have an idea of using only the exhaust manifolds and turbo, and add it to a TBI EFI system, as that should provide better fuel distribution, and keep drivabilty nice.

my friend ran his on his el camino for years at 8-10 lbs with no intercooling what so ever and no problems what so ever on the 8.5 : 1 stock 350. No intercooling or injecting anything but 91 octane that the carb supplied. Thats the way the system was designed and thats the way they were run for years and years.
