I was browsing cardomin.com and came across a kid with a TBI third gen with an electric leaf blower plumbed into his ducting plugged into a power converter. He claims a .5 sec. reduction in E.T... I checked on leaf blowers, and some can blow 200mph. Its only a $150 investment with the power converter, so im seriously thinking about it. I have TPI so i will have to come up with an air filter before the blower. I want my plumbing to be more sealed than his (pic enclosed). Will this work???? I will only hook it up for the track and turn it on at wide open throttle. Im i crazy???
Im all about budget racing, i have some cheap mods i learned from this site and other sources. check my webpage http://www.cardomain.com/id/2quikk4u
tell me what you think about this idea, it is amusing if anything!
It takes alot of horsepower to compress alot air to around 1/2-3/4 of an atmosphere. Like on the order of dozens of horsepower. A little leaf blower aint gonna cut it, not by a long shot.
On one hand, it's ridiculous, but on the other hand, what about ram air?
I mean it pressurizes the intake tract an amount that wouldn't show up on a boost ga, but there is a valid claim that ram air does have an effect. Correct?
A high flow air filter adds power cause it reduces the restriction. Maybe a leaf blower increases that effect.
I'll bet that if you tried it, you'd notice a power increase.
Personally, I'll save the leaf blower mod for later on.
But for $150, I say try it, and then you tell us how it does.

Be hell on the cars electrical system. Alot of pull on the alternator to run a motor that probably pulls 6 - 8 amps on 120 volt AC through a small power converter. Alternator probably robs another 20 horse power off of the engine alone. Converting 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC, not very efficient.
That guy really deserves one of the *** Clown Awards.

garuntee it helps a little kinda like a ram air would but there no way it can create the amount of positive intake pressure needed for real gains. plus its not worth the alts and batts the he will go through using it. besides you can always just install a barn fan on there and get more hp.j/k
My friend tried it on his Buick Park Avenue, and pretty much all it did was make a LOT of noise when he flipped the switch, but it was frigg'n cool to pull up to the light on cruise night in his car. When he flipped the switch the guy in the other car would always give us the weirdest looks. Hahahahah. Felt like basically no HP gain, maybe 2HP, but mostly just sounded cool. We discovered it requires at LEAST a 600 watt converter, which is kinda hard to come by I think. Not too familiar with electronics crap.

302 with some "goodies"
2007 Supercharged SS Cobalt, 2.7" blower pulley, some other stuff.....
It wont work, my friend did that to his 4.3 blazer, and well it was loud as heck, but didnt really give it any real gain, and it eventually caught on fire... its a waste of money, just save up and get a real supercharger

i have to disagree about it being B.S. i know the guy that the car belongs to and was there when he dynoed. He first dynoed w/o the leaf blower and then with it on. When he put it on, he gained 9 HP and 16 TQ. we were all amazed that it actually did anything for him. he has a power inverter in his car that he runs the powercord to when he is driving down the road and wants to use it.
What about if i used a shop vac and sucked out the exhaust for the same effect????

hahhahaha this is rediculuse.. this has gotta be the funiest thing ive heard.... if anyone needs a custom supercharger hood ill sell you one of my own. comes complete with a barn fan built into it a shopvac exhaust and a leafblower induction. hhahahhaha sorry no inverter includded might as well put a big propeller on there too lol .. im unsubscibing to this one ...its too funny....

Thanks guys, I needed a good laugh. I think I am going to hook up 250,000 btu kerosene heater into some steel ductwork and ram it through the air cleaner (supplemented with my leaf blower of course)...ought to do something!!!

Just how long of a power cord? Or does he just go from house to house? Must look strange to the neighbors!!!
Just kidding, post his dyno slips so we can see for real.

It will defintaly do somthing
I have a better idea, lets have a shopvac sucking air out the intake.

Watch out Boys! This here is a BEAST! 9 HP and 16 TQ, for 150 bucks! WHAT A DEAL!!!
Even if it made 10 times that, I wouldn't be caught dead in that thing. 9 hp and 16 ft-lbs of torque, what a joke. And the amount of power loss from the alternater working it's balls off to feed that thing would far demish any gains. I would estimate about 20 hp loss from the alernator. So his dyno results should be more like -11 hp, -10 tq.
An alternator adds HP???? thats a new one. Im sure top-fuel uses the best alternators.

A spinning alternator doesn't eat more HP under an electric load. As long as your battery has enough for the ignition firing it shouldnt effect anything.

hey i got the stones...all of you asking the dumnb questions.....go line up by that car over there with the leaf blower...*tosses stone up in the air and catches it with an evil grin on his face

thats has to be the stupidest thing i've ever heard of doing to a 3rd gen, what a shame... sounds like something a honda guy would do.. that belongs on www.beaterz.com
