HOLSET Turbos

anybody know whee to find HX55 compressor map.

Every dang site I look at has a HX50 and HX60 map.
Everything skips the HX55 any reason for this?

I just picked up a new HX55 for a Single turbo build up. Desided to ditch the Twin 60/63 T's and go with a Single setup for the 418

This thing is Huge compaired to the T3's Ive been reading up on info on the HX55 and it seems like it will do nice on the 400+er hopefully it will start to spool around 3k

So anyone have a map for this? From what Ive gathered its pretty close to a PT88 but not as large

Is that a 67 or 72mm HX55? 18, 19 or 22cm^2 turbine (I think that the 55 is the only common holset that uses the same turbine wheel for all the housings)? I'm betting it's a 22 unless the thing came from overseas.

The compressor map is pretty much the map that is published in the PDF on Holset's site, if you look the 50 and 55 share maps (the 55 is the 50's replacement, the 55 uses a slightly larger compressor housing for slightly better efficiency but in the process gained the reputation for blowing compressor side seals). You'll have to convert units.

I'll have to look through the PDF i have it just havent got a chance to read it all. Not Sure on the CM^ I'll have to measure and see, Its prob a 22cm like you say.It came from a shop the rebuilds, and re balances turbos.

I asked the company I bought it from about the known oil seal problem and he said when he rebuilds the units he takes care of this problem and its nothing to worry about. Somehing also about they have constand pressure. I'll have to ask exactally what he does when I call back to get the tial waste gate.

You guys wouldn't happen to have a link to the doc? PM maybe.
I dowloaded all the Holset docs and can't find the HX55 or HX50 map. I wouldn't interested in either of them.

Thanks,
Junk

Thanks, but no need to search for it. I came across a single line map for the HX50 that is usable for my purposes. I ran some of the Cummins engine numbers backwards and it all seems OK. I think I am all set.

Since this thread is labeled Holset turbos.....here is some info.
The turbine I have is a 25 cm^2 unit with internal wastegate. The turbine inlet gasket is for a HX60. I measured the area at the inlet gasket and it is the same as a Holset H2D 19cm^2 turbine. So the inlet area is roughly the same as a T4 turbine. The A/R is about 1.0. The bolt hole space is only 1/4" larger than a T4 in both directions. It seems like it will spool very well on a 350ci.

It is interesting that Holset runs a small area like this. The exhaust outlet is 5" (big). Any one else measure the exhaust hole area of the turbine inlet? I am curious how a real HX55 turbine inlet compares to a Garrett T4. Turbonetics has the dimensions for a T4 inlet (to compare to).

The HX55 compressor appears to be off a 8.3 liter and not an M11 (11 liter). It has the map width enhancement slots and a 70mm comp. inducer wheel. The stock engine ran 540FWHP @ 2500RPM @ 15PSI of boost. The engine cfm spec is 958cfm or roughly 74 lb/min.

EDIT: The other thing is that there are all kinds of HX55 units out there. All with different flows from what I was told.

83 Crossfire TA,
I finally got around to picking up the compressor V-band & seal for the HX55. It was way too small for the unit I have. It looked like 3" OD. My outlet is 4.2" OD. I am searching through the Walker HD catalog for a v-band that has the measurements I need. 4.2" OD on the large side, 3.60" OD on the small side. I think the Walker 35496 v-band looks very close to what I need. As for the flange, I am pretty much stuck with making one out of 1/4" alum. plate and 3.5" OD 1/8" wall aluminum pipe.

camaroracer85,
I got about 50+ hits doing a search for H2C at "www.turbomustangs.com".
All the info you need is located there. You can search there without being a member. Still not sure how you fabbed everything without the turbo in hand.

EDIT: I have also been thinking about looking at the Garrett GT42 and Detroit 60 Series for the HX55 outlet flange. They might be the same.

I finally found a proper compressor outlet flange for the HX55. I think it has taken about a month to find all the right parts for this thing.
