How To Route Belt On Rootstyle S/C TPI...

i'm gonna get a weiand 144 root blower for my 1990 TPI vette motor...i've heard that those blowers are made for v belt motors, not serpentine....first of all, can it be done? and if so, how??? i'm removing the a/c and airpump if that helps with the routing of the belts...

I think we are missing something here?
#1 you can't use that bolwer on the tpi unless you remote mount it like a couple guys did with some eaton s/c

#2 it should have it's own pulley and belt seperate from the serp belt (if I remember right)

No, you can't. Most older design roots blowers use fuel to cool the rotors and keep things within tolerances

If the belt routing on Vette accessories are the same as on an F-body then it will clear the serp belt and it's tensioner. Blower snout sticks out just off to the driver's side of center.

The main issue is how FAR it sticks out. I use the standard Weiand 142 "long nose" version built for a 3 v-belt setup on my 78 Malibu. Comparing it with the serpentine setup on my 91 Camaro the belt will be about 1/4" too close to the engine and will interfere with the serp belt/water pump pulley.

There is a version of the 142 with the "extra long nose" that sticks out about an inch further and would clear a stock f-body serp belt setup. However, it is only going to be good up to maybe 425HP or so- they only supply a 6" bottom pulley for this setup and you'll probably want the larger 7" bottom pulley to make any more power than that. Just rough power estimates on my part.

I don't know what's exactly available for the similar Holley 144 blower- might want to check with them. Holley owns Weiand, by the way.
