If I were to get an L98, what would be needed to slap a turbo on it? From a completely stock point of view... How could it be done? What would be needed, how much boost would it take to get it faster than a dang TTA!?
Planning an L98 swap for my car, and seriously planning ahead. Its always best to do it right the first time! I dont want to have to re-pull the engine after I get it in!
P.s. why dont I ever hear about any v-8's that respond as well to turbocharging as the 3.8?

There's the obvious, such as the turbos, Y-pipe, downpipes, wastegates, dump-tubes, oiling lines, intake, changing to a custom computer or MAP system with a custom chip, and relocating everything you can think of to fit it in.
V8's respond great to turbos! It's just that there was no easy bolt-on kit currently, so you don't see too many of them. I built a twin turbo setup on a basically stock L98 engine (Super Ram intake), so I'm limited to very low boost (dang cast pistons!). I have the wastegates set at 5 psi, and it'll generally overboost to around 7 psi in the summer. My one and only good day at the track had me spinning all the way through 1st and 2nd, forcing me to shift into third at 3000 rpms. The 1/8 mile was 9.0@86 mph, while the 1/4 was 13.4@114. With decent tires (I tried a drag radial and snapped the axle) and a better program in the DFI (I had a super-rich, low timing daily driver program in there at the time) I should pick up another 4 mph or so. On a fairly stock L98. The engine is in its death-throes right now, chugging smoke every now and then, getting oil-blowby, etc... We'll see if I can get a good pass or dyno run before it explodes

You can't slap a Turbo on anything and expect much. It takes lots of study to get it right. Doing a TTA type drivetrain saves 150 lbs off of the front end. A TTA is a neat car, and just does so much right, why reinvent the wheel?. Going the TTA makes it a bolt together of KNOWN items.
BTW, if anyone is serious about somthing like this I have a bunch of the items to do it, write me off list if your really interested
