It works just like a fuel pressure regulator. There is a diaphragm in the middle of the "cap". Depending on which side pressure or vaccuum is applied, it'll cause the poppet to move into the housing, opening the wastegate port. Boost on the inside (manifold side, with the port on the side of the cap) or vaccuum on the outside (port on the face of the cap) will cause the poppet to open. Try it on your bench w/ a mityvac or blow gun set low, and you'll see it move.

I dont know if my wastegate was already broken or maybe i added to much air pressure and ruptured the diaphram. If I add air pressure to the side port ,some air comes out of the top port.

Does turbonetics offer wastegate rebuild kits??
On a twin turbo application if one wastegate is not functioning will the other wastegate compensate for the bad one ????

I haven't taken a racegate apart, but if it's anything similar to my Deltagates, the two sides should be sealed. Does your other wastegate do this as well, or does it hold air? You can unbolt the cap, and check if it's torn. I didn't have luck with Turbonetics Inc returning my calls for spare parts on my Deltagate, and instead bought a used one from the message boards. If you have one wastegate that doesn't function, that turbo will be working much harder at WOT, creating a very different exhaust backpressure on that bank, and messing with the air fuel ratio. For part throttle cruise, it should be safe enough since you aren't in the area where the wastegates are needed, but I wouldn't go WOT.

well i took both wastegate (turbonetics deltagate sorry for confusion) apart. i found that both wastegate rods that connect the valve to the pistons broken. When i would add air pressure to the side port of the valve would not move on its own.I would have to grab the valve to pull it off the seat while i added air pressure to the side port.I would imagine even with the rod broken the exhaust pressure would open the valve right? I have sinced fixed the rod ,so now the valve opens on its own with airpressure being added to the side port..
