Two passes to win and qualify because nobody else showed up.

Both passes on 20 psi of boost at Bandimere's 5860 foot altitude.

8.77 and 8.76 both at 160 mph in the 1/4 mile.

I guess this is what it looked like at his pit all day:

bonus:

Also this is what street racing looks like when wyoming and colorado cars have at it (no the nova above wasn't there):

But the chevelle in the above video is the 1000rwhp one from the same shop:

video of the nova running 8.76 are coming soon...

Here is the timeslip:

Wow, and that is with a overbored 5.3 truck block and crank? What other GM parts are still holding on for dear life inside that rocket ship?

Re: Giant turbo, 350 LS1 in a nova project

that is a VERY cool car and build in general!
a local guy with backhalfed monte carlo went a 5.03 in the 1/8 with an aluminum LS2 block and nitrous.... thought that was pretty wicked!

It is my understanding his is just the block.

There is a stock 5.3 and 4.8 floating around making ~700rwhp with a turbo each.

wow nice ride, i would be willing to bet you could get a good sponsor for that car with the whole E85 deal, and i thought those 4.8's were garbage.

Nope they use the same block/heads as the 5.3!

Re: Giant turbo, 350 LS1 in a nova project

Update: He has won his class (Ultimate Street) every time so far when entering except at ONE location. At that location they moved the race series to a more remote track for a race. Because of that remote location only a few cars showed up. So they combined the class with another racing class where he was still only edged out to 2nd place finish by a car that runs 7.80's.

His best time so far with the same soft launch method is:
8.61 at 167 mph

He can run faster, but anything faster than a 8.50 will get him kicked off the track as his car is only certified to 8.50.

I just wanted to say that this car is so fast that his class, Ultimate Street, is considering a rules change to try to slow him down. They are considering a change to limit the class to only a single 88mm inducer measurement. On his car, limited already to 8.50, already limiting the boost as he is, he will be able to run the same times with an 88mm turbo!

DAMMN B4CTOM you still making lots of noise I see!

LSx is my after school project. I already have an inconel manifold that I intend to slap a 76mm compressor on and reach for 600-800 horses. Holding the engine together is the hardest part, Ive no experience with LSx internals and I doubt stock pistons are up to the challenge. Everything else about the engine is a green light, however.

Ill be using a 700R4 of course, or a T-56, depends on how big I go with the turbo. Looking for pump gas @ 600-700WHP

I must admit 800Ft/lbs of torque @ 8,000 RPM is impressive. The most you will see at 8,000RPM with a GT-42r Turbo on a 2.6L Engine @ 40~PSI of boost is about 550ft.lbs of torque with nearly perfect VE (900~rwhp)
thats displacement!!

Well don't get too excited for me. This is not my project. This is a friend's project. There are just so many interesting and unique details to his car that even if they did a magazine article on it they wouldn't be able to do it justice. He picked so many innovative ways to save money on the project that I am not sure they could even cover it all in one article.

As far as your stock LSx parts "handling" the power, I am not sure for how long it would work. I can show you a nice example of even a 4.8L truck motor w/turbo test here:

Re: Giant turbo, 350 LS1 in a nova project

That thing is wicked B4CTOM1! I notice that I cant really hear the turbo spool up. I didn't want to go with turbo because of the lose of the muscle car sound, but you just convinced me other wise.

Well i guess i better sell my vortech supercharger and get a nice turbo!

Also, if that block can hold that much power, then I spent $2000 on a LSX block for nothing!

I wouldn't say that. I don't think you can go wrong with the LSX block as a foundation. I just think many people wouldn't need one.
