Turbo Hat....HSR to Carb

I am looking for a turbo hat that has a 4" inlet and the ability to swivel to meet my needs. Basically I have a 4" CAI hooked up to my HSR now and would like to retain this when I go to carb.

Also a very basic question...Are all carbs the same size (I think I keep seeing 5 1/8") or are turbo hats specific to each different carb?

<------New to carbs

I'll have to reround out the CAI since I ovalized it to fit the TB...

I suppose so but I've seen some advertised that said they swivled. I just wanted to make sure that this was possible.

Re: Turbo Hat....HSR to Carb

I'm going to watch this thread.

CamarosRUS - Do you have a stock hood? If you switch to carb are you going to keep it? I'm in a similar boat. I have a 383, with an rpm air gap manifold and a speed demon carb under a cowl hood. I hate the cowl hood. I want to put the stock one back on and have been looking into carb hats to make a cold air setup.

http://www.superiorairflow.com/extreme_velocity.htm

Thats the one I've been looking at. Supposed to flow real well, however pricey.

Anyway, I'd like to see what you come up with.

Re: Turbo Hat....HSR to Carb

Right now I have a stock hood with my HSR and I had to beat a dent inthe hood to keep them from rubbing. I also plan to move to an RPM Air-Gap if I get this running properly and am looking curently at a Demon 850.

I'm new to carbs but wanted to keep the CAI I worked so hard on for the HSR (thats why I need a 4" inlet).

Thats actually the website that made me question the hat being able to swivle...
The SDCE Carb Hats says fully rotational and less carb mods required. What carb mods would be required??

Anyway, whts the difference in the 4150 and 4500 carb hats?

Re: Turbo Hat....HSR to Carb

I am running a RPM air-gap with a holley 4160 and a stock 92 hood with blisters. I have to use a dropbase air cleaner with a 2" filter.

I have had the same idea with the carb hat, but I would like to get some measurements of the hat first. I dont think it will fit under a stock hood.

If the spectre on will fit, thats a good price.

Re: Turbo Hat....HSR to Carb

Cool, good luck!

4150 style carb hats, whatever is based off a carb with a base of 5 1/8 diameter. Like a classic double pumper or my speed demon 750.

4500 style is for the dominator type base. 7" - something ?? I'm not sure never messed with one.

The demon 850 you're looking at if its a speed demon then the 4150 would the style its based off of. I think the mighty demons also keep with the 4150 style, but the King demons go with 4500.

Re: Turbo Hat....HSR to Carb

Thanks! Think I'm gonna pick up a Speed Demon 850 DP. Should be okay if I decide to go bigger with the motor.
