turbo v6 test n tune 6/27/07 : video

since most of u guys have never seen my car in action heres a clip for ya

this was on a junkyard 2.8 v6 running 7 psi.
i was out trying to get a baseline tune for my new megasquirt system before i install my new built 3.1.
dont expect to much cause i blew the intake pipe off around the 330 mark, ull actually see a puff of black smoke when it pops off

again this is a bone stock 150+K mile junkyard motor

Re: turbo v6 test n tune 6/27/07 : video

it was slow, once the intake tube poped off i coasted down the rest of the track, for fear of overspeeding the turbo if i gave it gas.next week im going back out for some more tunning/passes,this time im gonna get t-bolt clamps for all my couplers.and im also gonna make use of my antilag system.
just hope the stock ds and rear hold together now that im running slicks on the car

I wish my web connection would allow for viewing that video. How was the 60' time with the slicks? You were smart to take it easy after blowing the pipe off and not over-speeding the shaft.

Playing with junk always seems like more fun than the big buck stuff.

1.9 60' its my best yet,i left the line under 3psi, once i get the larger injectors in im gonna hook up the antilag ten the fun begins.14 psi+ launches.
im taking the car back out in 2 weeks actually and gonna tune for 14 psi should be interesting. right now i gota get some good clamps instead of using hose clamps on the couplers

Re: turbo v6 test n tune 6/27/07 : video

what antilag does is
#1 it dumps around 30% more fuel then needed when active
#2 it retards the ign timing so far that the air/fuel mixture is still burning when the ex valves open, also any unburnt fuel will ignite inside the headers

this causes very high ex gas temps which in turn spools up the turbo very fast
if uve ever seen a turbo car at the starting line and its banging and poping out the ex very loudly its using some form of an antilag system

This is a feature from MS? I never heard of it, but WOW, I could only imagine how useful this could be. How is it triggered (or is it always active)?

We need to line up the fbody v6's once ur settled in. I'm waiting to hear back about my wideband setup. I'm popping and breaking up at 20psi with the dump open, but not closed(wierd).

Gotta tighten the gaps on the plugs. This thing drinks alky like no tomorrow. I get 1 cruise session with it before it's sipped the tank dry.......

Gonna try for Wednesday if not definately Friday....

^ My TT-BTA has ways to go yet, but I'll definitely run you in my '91 Formula. It'd be nice seeing two Third Gen Firebird's lining up against each other at e-Town, although your TTA will leave me standing still after the 330 mark....

You should be fine. I pull 1.5 60' on full slicks with the bone stock rear end and gears.

Auto/Turbo cars hit softer as compared to dumping a clutch (rearend killer). Even the 9 bolt that spins one tire(tired posi) still takes a beating......

Well, I am curious. Where the 10-bolts 8.5" ring gears? I always seem to blow a trans. before breaking a 8.5" 10-bolt. What shape were they in? Maybe bad bearings and a loose gear mesh?

Re: turbo v6 test n tune 6/27/07 : video

I played around a little with the extra fuel & retarted timing setup. It does work, but it is hard on exhaust valves. I didn't use it long due to my old stock GM valves. Neat to see that people are doing it with the megasquirt ECMs.

yes it is very hard on the ex valves specially when u get to the point of retarding the timing so much that the air/fuel is being lit as the ex valve is opening. this type of system also needs to be used with care on aluminum heads,as it makes it easy to drop a valve seat.iconel valve should also be utililed.

but it can be used with stock/and stainless valves but care must be taken so u dont burn up the valves

another method i was playing with was to richen the mixture up alot to the point the motor would pig rich while loading the converter, without pulling timming, this alows for the exsess fuel to burn inside the headers spooling the turbo up pretty good.though not as good as retarding the timing as well.
this method dosent give the loud pops/backfiring as with pulling timming, and is easier on the ex valves, but is just as hard on turbo chargers as the previos method

yeah i know i wasnt the one that uploaded them so ....

anyways
heres a sample from my data log

learned my leason tuning a boosted motor with narrow band = impossible

i only stalled out to 2500 on the line, but within one sample of going wot i was into boost

though the 140% duty cycle didnt help,i also short shifted the car @ 6800 instead of my usual 7200+

red = duty cycle

7400 rpm max this timeso much for ppl saying i kept my foot in it the whole way down the track.
wot threw 1st of on the 1-2 or right after the 1-2 shift then 25% throttle the rest of the track on pretty much both passes

Re: turbo v6 test n tune 6/27/07 : video

No 3rd gen came with a 8.5 10 bolt rear, turbo or not! You could order a dana 44 from the dealership, but that is as close as you got to a bulletproof rear in a 3rd gen. If you're talking the TTA it is a 3.27 9 bolt(I'm on my 2nd TTA)

I was thinking about the 8.5's from the GN's, but fabbing the tq mount would require either a bracket welded to the center section to hook it up or Have a custom diff. cover made up(ala GNX) to run a tq arm under the rear(over would hit the gas tank and exhaust).
