Third Gen 3.4L Supercharged questions

When rebuilding my firebird I went with a 3.4L motor from ARI racing, port polished heads etc. does anyone know of a supercharger kit for this, RSMracing makes a kit but its for the SFI3.4L Grand Am motors. I also know powerdyne makes one for the 3.8L Camaro
Not sure whats available just researching and shopping
Any ideas???

I don't think the 3.4L was ever offered in a longitudinal mount eh? Think the blower for the transverse grand am would work? I think with a few tweaks it would.

Out of curiosity, what drove you to get a souped up 3.4L?

Re: Third Gen 3.4L Supercharged questions

Huh, I thought it was only the 3800 that was available as the barebones model for the 4th gen... But come to think of it, you're right, slipped my mind I guess.
I don't think there's much in the way of hot rodding the base model though, which begs the question of why?

Re: Third Gen 3.4L Supercharged questions

Last I had heard RSM (Z-Spec now, I think) made a supercharger kit for the 3.4L Camaro. They also have it for the FWD 3.4 (3400). Mounting, for the FWD one, is going to be different...but it is probubly doable.
I looked into the 3.4 Camaro package a while back, they said that they could still do it but it wasnt in their catalog. I think it was around $3400, which was WAY to much for me.
They also have one for the Fiero.
But regardless which way you go, its not going to be a "bolt-on and go" kit. They all have things that youll need to get done to them.
FWD--> Retrofited for the RWD and ECM tuning
3.4---> The 3.4 ECM tuning wont work for you.
Fiero-> Pipes, Mabye mounting, and mabye tuning

Re: Third Gen 3.4L Supercharged questions

Sonix, I went with the 3.4l because I dont want to swap to a v8
I have v8 385 fastburn but this car I want to leave a v6
I dont want to swap harnesses etc, plus I can pull 200 + hp out of the 3.4 with select mods, + ari has a really good deal going for one right now

Re: Third Gen 3.4L Supercharged questions

AH, gotcha. I figured if you have the big HP car, then why not leave the other one as a basic get around vehicle with max economy. But hey if you got the money to hotrod both, why not eh? (must be nice)...

Re: Third Gen 3.4L Supercharged questions

If you swap the heads with a grand prix 3.4 you can put the supercharger on with it. the 3.4L sfi is the most restricted engine the gm has ever made and if you can pull all those restrictions out it will keep up with a lt1 350, i got a buddy that did it and its quick as hell now.

Re: Third Gen 3.4L Supercharged questions

itd be a little more complicated than just swapping the heads to make that work. the other problem with getting one made for a 3.4l camaro is its going to be based of the 4th gen which will lead to a few other custom tweaks to make it work.

id have to see the kits available to know for sure, i went the turbo route it was a lot easier in my eyes to do

I also Think that swaping a 4.3L v6 in a firebird would be a cool idea...

same work as swaping in a v8 except for the fact the 4.3 will need custom mounts, theres a thread on it in the engine swap forum
