What has to be changed to.........

What has to be changed to add a ProCharger supercharger?

I have a 383 TPI w/ Vortec heads (upgraded to handle up to 0.525" lift), Edelbrock Performer TPI Vortec Baseplate, SLP runners. I am going to rebuild the bottom end with all forged components.

I am entertaining the idea of installing a ProCharger supercharger kit purchased from Hawks.

I am only familiar with the basics about superchargers. Does the kit bolt up to the current intake manifold or does it have to be changed? Do the runners stay the same? Will anything in the engine compartment have to be moved or removed to make room for the supercharger components? Where do you install the intercooler? Will my Edelbrock strut tower brace still fit?

Re: What has to be changed to.........

It will all just "bolt on" you're going to need to upgrade your fuel pump and injectors, deffinately going to want some 1 3/4" or bigger headers and probably a 3.5-4" exhaust. I personally would want bigger heads and a different intake, 383 cubes alone is already maxing that TPI out. You're also going to want a blower cam, i'd call up cam motion and get a custom ground one. Hope you're tranny and rear end are up to par!

you need to make sure your compression isn't that high for the supercharger too unless your gonna run a small psi one like 6pounds or so

Re: What has to be changed to.........

I should have added that I have 1 3/4" headers, GMMG chambered exhaust, ProBuilt 700R4 Trans, 9-Bolt rearend with 3.73 gears and support girdle. Seeing as how I am going to bebuild the bottom end of the block, I can use whatever pistons I need to get the correct compression. I also know that I will need to change the cam. I would like to keep the heads and intake manifold. Are they going to be THAT bad with the supercharger set-up? I know that there may be better options. But will they work at all?

Also, what about the Edelbrock strut-tower brace?

Re: What has to be changed to.........

Everything is forward of the brace, so it should be fine...

The kit comes with an FMU (Fuel Management Unit), but it's just a band aid, you really need to add the correct injectors (60lb or so)... kit also comes with an external fuel pump...

the next step is using your stock computer to control the new injectors & monitor boost...

http://code59.org/

You have a 90, which is MAP... buying a 3 bar map sensor and a wideband o2, the code above will "retune" your computer to monitor boost, wideband 02 and control the injectors...

the intercooler is located in front of the radiator... there is an option to get 2 smaller ones, check with ATI...

Get forged internals for the motor too... I wan't gonna get the deck o ringed, so ATI said to stick with about 15 psi, you'll need the 12 rib pulley set....

I recommend the ford racing injectors....
