I have the D1SC charger with intercooler setup and after blowing one motor I am in the process of rebuilding and improving. My concern with this setup is that the intake to the unit is directly above my headers. mmm mmm hot air. I was wondering if anyone has itilized some additional tubing to intake cooler air or ram air etc? On a side note I am planning on venting bypass to atmos to eliminate that stupid hose that gets torn up rubbing on the frame provides me with some added clutter. thanks for your input in advance. here is a pic of the old setup and one of the new in progress.
Since you already have an intercooler you know that cooler air is better all around for forced induction. But, by pulling in warm air, you are reducing the effectiveness of the intercooler.
I used pvc tubing to route the air intake to the stock fog light position (removed fog lights), so that pre-turbo the air is at ambient temp. With this setup, I notice that the iat's stay close to ambient. Obviously, you will have to be a little more creative since the procharger inlet points to the rear.
I guess that is the main problem I face here is how to route a hose back around to the front. I dont have everything together yet otherwise i would start mocking up some tubing for fitment. I would be removing a headlight and puting the inlet there. I need the fog light openings to radiator and intercooler flow. i thought about running it to the hole in the cowling where the wiper motor was but its too small. I am also running the stock hood which creates clearance issues. Id just like to see if any one has been able to accomplish this.

First rap the headers with heat rap to keep the engine bay temps down, next buy a 4" cowl induction hood and route the filter to the back of the engine so you can pick cold air out of the cowl. You don't have enogh clarence to run the filter up front.

Like Tony said, a Cowl hood, not the cowl area above the firewall.
Also, aluminum plates can do wonders. If you seal off the cowl, or even slide a plate under the intake and headers in its current setup, it will reflect alot of heat.
Whats wrong with the cowl area?
Just an idea that I saw on anther car with a similar blower. But this all depends on your fab skills. Make an air box for your air filter. Mount it in a similar location to where the air filter sits now. Then run a pipe into the cowl area of the car. Thats what I would do if its my car.
Both motors run 12 lbs of boost. 1st motor melted 2 pistons running lean. cowl hood would be a viable option but i am set on fitting everything under the stock hood. Also, on the first motor i used header wrap and needless to say after 5k miles i bought new headers. so no wrap. I like the ideas online and grover. maybe an aluminum plate under a filter box with the inlet going into the cowl? The box would still heat up a bit but i think it would be better than what ive got. I dont know if id be comfortable using a plastic filter box, probably use aluminum. I dont know if id need a water seperator. It obviously wouldnt be driven in the rain. But the cowling area is open to whatever may fall in it and that makes me nervous.
ok, so i got to thinking, if i changed the routing for the outlet a bit i could run to the front. (see pic) just dont wanna go buy elbows and not have it fit. but id rather do it this way than to the cowling. what yall think?
