looking for a nonrestrictive but not like open headers either. would like the car to be more quiet than the flowmaster one chamber on it now which cant be the greatest since it has plates in it that block the flow. need to order tonight if possible so looking for quick answers. I run a single 3 inch pipe back to it.

no budget summit credit card. want something that sounds agressive but a little quieter than like a flowmaster if possible and why bullets are kinda out. are borla quieter?
Well, I run Dynomax Ultraflo's and I don't think they are too loud. But I think they are about as loud as a single chamber flowmaster I guess. Just a lower tone. The best flowing is a straight through like what I have or the Borla. You could pick up a long one and it would be quieter. Where does your exhaust dump?
right now I have it dumping under the pass door but goes out and not under the car. I am going to move it to the back again but just the pipe and keep the muffler in the old cat area as it is more efficent there close to the heat. So borla quieter than a ultra flow? I dont want really quite but kinda stealth.
I have the Borla 3.5" XR1 on my car due to sound. Before this I had a Dynomax ultraflow round and this just sounds less glass-pack-ish, if that makes sense. However this was not on a turbo car, and a turbo can help mute the exhaust a little bit. I liked the sound of the Dynomax bullet better than the ultraflow, actually, but the ultraflow was a little quieter. I think in general more packing = more sound absorption. Though a bullet muffler would give you better ground clearance since the case is physically smaller.
Also, for what it's worth, the further back a muffler is in the exhaust, the less restrictive it will be since the exhaust gases will be cooler. Moving a muffler closer to the engine does not make it more efficient. Probably a negligible difference, and yes I know having a lot of exhaust tubing causes a restriction as well (due to drag).. again, negligible.

i thought the hotter gasses went through it faster. So out of the 3 mufflers the borla is the quietest? I was astually choosing out of those and maybe a magnaflow as I have seen good numbers with them too and known for being a little quieter than most. Figures the borla is the best (most expensive) but I still have a couple hundred left on my summit card. I saw the xs series borla made the most power but I cant spend 200+ on a muffler. I just cant get myself to do it. Hard enough to do 150 vrs 40 or 50 for a regular bullet. If they are real close then the bullet would be the way to go but I will leave that up to you as you have run both.
I did the same thing that you want to do. At first I just had single 3" tubing all the way to the back of the car. But, it was too loud, so I added a Magnaflow MPE-11249 where the cat used to be. I loved the sound after that, much quieter and a lot deeper tone to it. The muffler is a straight-through design, so there is no back pressure.
However, after swapping the T5 for the T56, the exhaust hit the driveshaft loop on the Spohn crossmember, so I had to hack it off. Right now, I just have the 3" downpipe end right behind the front tire. I've been too lazy so far to remount the exhaust, lol.
That one is an Ultraflow welded oval 3" center in/out according to the dynomax catalog (the picture on Summit's site is incorrect). The oval cases have more packing so they'll be a little quieter than the round or bullet cases.
I'm running a 3.5" Dynomax Ultraflow, part #17517. It's a 3.5" center in/out with a 4.5"x9" oval canister, 14" long, with a "sport" sound, not "race". Not too loud (compared to open boom tubes). Having it exit under the pass door will definitely get resonance inside the car, and make it much louder. Moving it out the back (not under) fixes that.
You want as little restriction as possible. If you have the room, go for the biggest muffler shell you can find with a straight through perforated core.
still havent made up my mind. looking at borla xr1 or xs pro and the dyno max bullet or ultra flow. going to move it to the back again so will have room for a larger muffler back there. wish i had kept my 4 inch mufflex now and just changed the muffler on it. dang it. needed the 350 at the time to finish the build though. it helped pay for the turbo.

Im really happy with my exhaust setup. I have a 3in downpipe that runs to where a single cat thirdgen cat used to be. I put an electric cutout where the cat would be, then i have an SLP cat back with the dual drivers side exit in the rear. (like the 91-92 firehawks) But i put a flowmaster muffler on. Its actually quiter than my car was when it was stock without cats and a flowmaster catback. But when the cutout is open its sounds like an open downpipe. Best of both worlds. Plus when the cutout is closed, the restriction of the full exhaust acts as a boost control. Open exhaust is 14-15lbs of boost, closed exhasut is 10-11lbs of boost.

I prefer the Dynomax products because they flow test and publish data. Using other manufacturers you have to guess at flow characteristics by looking at the design.
Pick the muffler based on flow and then measure / figure out if you can fit it in there.
Why run a muffler at all on a turbo car? Let the turbo be your muffler.
Both of my turbo rigs would never pass inspection due to sound without mufflers. Have you ever heard a turbo car without a muffler? It is loud. People tend to over do it saying that turbos them selves make a good muffler. They do quiet things, but nothing like a proper muffler would. The beauty of a turbo is that you can put mufflers on it and drive around quietly (no whinning SC sound)...........wack the throttle......turbos spool and a nice quiet 500 - 1000 HP.
way too loud with no muffler and sounds terrible. I drive the car every where and like it to be steath. Something about pulling up to a gsxr1100 and smacking it down from a roll and he cant even hear my car over his bike. Or even better is going to the track and lineing up against a all out no exhaust full slick race car with my street car and getting that smile and laugh like i am gonna smoke you then i pass them before the 8th mile and make over 10 mph then them and turn my a/c on and creep back to the staging lanes while they tow there car back with a 4 wheeler since they have no alt or what ever and they are wondering how in the hell that just happened to them. The beauty of a turbo. when quiet it sneeks up on you then it is too late to realize what just happened.
