help with speed in a 91 305 rs camaro all basically stock

SORRY IF THIS IS IN THE WRONG SPOT (just sayin ahead of time)

so i have a 91 v8 305 rs camaro and i wanna keep the engine close to original so not taking parts off in a sense. I was wondering how much performance chips cost for this cause i can't find much specifics about them and i dont wanna get screwed over you know? So i was wondering any suggestions and average price range? help would be awsome.

and along the same lines is it true you can't get a super/turbo charger with a chip?

Second i know this doesnt go here it was just easier than typing out different threads. So headers on this car are thety worth the price and how easy to install.
Thanks so much
ZAC

P.S. Private replys would be the best if thats not a problem cause i don't come on to often. And i suck at finding my own posts. thanks.

RESEARCH! This is a good start, but you need to do a LOT of research.

As far as a chip goes, I think you're thinking about something like a Hypertech programmer. Stay away from them. With these cars you need a chip burned for your specific car, on a dyno. That's the only way you're going to get one that will work correctly with your car. That being said, while you may see some slight gains on a stock car, it's not really going to be worthwhile until you start really modding the car.

As for your second part, yes headers are always a worthwhile investment, even if you only see slight gains at first. They are a building block for the engine that allow you to see more gains later on from other mods. Anything that helps the engine breath better is good. They're not the easiest thing to install, but you can do it an a driveway with some jackstands and hand tools.

Re: help with speed in a 91 305 rs camaro all basically stock

yeah I know i gotta research but a lot of sights don't get in to specifics and thats what i want. Cause yeah my buddy said he has a chip that is for this car. Can it mess anything up at all. (like is it worth a practice run)

okay and with headers i was told with the 305 that they dont do much at all so then like you said get them for a building block cause i have flomaster "dual exhaust" (Y pipe) and the Y pipe doesnt do that great with headers and can yo weld them to the mainifold instead of bolting them? and if yeah which is better

thanks for the repl though

And just FYI, if you go to the User CP tab at the top of the page, click there and all of your threads are listed for easy reference. It took me a while to figure that out. Good Luck!

texasLT1, yeah your right about power chips not doing much for your car. because i have a hypertech street runner power chip and i to have a rs 305 tbi and boy does that suck. which is why I'm saving every dime for a LS1 swap. but yeah your best bet would to have a chip burned that fits your car specific needs. good luck?

I have a 91 305 tbi to i put headers and a hypertec 6 pac chip on mine. It was fairly cheap and it works great. It has 6 settings fuel econ, towing, power level 1, power level 2, valle, and security. at a push of a button i can have good gas milage or more power.

so with your chip does it really improve your car that much? because i dont wanna waste my money and do you have to warm up the setting before running it or just is it auto (ex: so if i rev at a street light racing this guy and i swap from good milage to power would it instantly change? and how do you get it to fit your car)

Re: help with speed in a 91 305 rs camaro all basically stock

The chip does make a big differance. The change is insant there is no warm up needed. My headers are by flow tech and my ehaust is hand made with a flowmaster muffler. over all i think the headers and exhaust made the bigest improvement. But i told you wrong on the maker of the chip it is made by jet performance not hypertech. I allso have a msd 6al ignition box.

Re: help with speed in a 91 305 rs camaro all basically stock

I used a y-pipe with single 3 inch to the muffler and 2 1/2 inch out it to 4 inch tips. the exhaust was hand made by me including the y-pipe. But flow tech makes a great y-pipe for there headers I just didnt have the money for it. Plus i make custom exhaust for a living.
