EDIT.. i see your sig pic link. interesting setup thats for sure. How is the heat under the hood? especially around that brake booster? thats my biggest concern
no heat issues although I would suggest putting heat tape on the underside of the hood. Here is a pic from this weekend. Excuse my ugly welds I need to grind them down and paint my new exhaust it really turned out clean and tons of ground clearence. I just installed my new K-member and a-arms. I also built my new dual 3" exhaust.
The engine is a new dart 406 with a t400 tranny so its all new. I should be getting my new fab 9inch in a few weeks. I want to go 8s at 160 that's my goal so we will see.

I'm assuming your keeping the stock alternator and P/S pump location? Only reason I ask is, because I remember seeing another member make a twin turbo setup with similar compressors and gain room to fit all of it under the stock hood by mounting the alternator on the passenger side low on the motor. He did have more of a log style turbo manifold, but it was a nice compact setup and you wouldn't have to cut the hood. That being said if you do have to modify the hood I would mount the turbos up higher with cone filters sticking out of the hood to scare the rice bombs and get a nice cold intake charge. Very nice build and it will be a sick car when its done.

no i'm not using stock accessory brackets as they will not work with this setup. Plan on running KRC Power Steering complete pulley kit. The manifolds are getting finish welded this week.
So the turbos stay where they are and although they will stick out the hood a tad, I dont mind it too much. I wish it was more sleeper and i would have built the system under the hood but oh well. I like this setup so far. Maybe i'll work on another setup to better clear everything. I just dont see how some ppl are mounting turbos between the motor and radiator with accessories. There is not much room there with fans/waterpump and alternator even with a smaller T4 turbo.
The setup posted above is nice but i'm keeping my window washer fluid bottle in place so there goes that turbo location
I'm gonna order a BOV and finish the last inlet pipe. I'm gonna finish mount everything to verify its not warped and everything still fits. Once thats done, i'll work on the fuel system and such.
I want to say the guy's user name was J88IROCZ28 or something like that but he basically made log style manifolds that hugged the block and kept the turbos just a little bit lower. I started toying with building my own twin turbo setup last summer, but I'm still a college student so I just don't have enought time or money right now to do that. So I'm just going to have to settle on finishing my 550 horse 408 and going NA for a couple years. Would one of the old daytona twin turbo hoods be just tall enough to clear the compressor housings and save you from cutting holes in the hood?
No, that hood wont clear it either. I have looked around and the only one that had a chance was the sunoco hood which is a wide 3" cowl but it would only cover half the compressor side housing. No big deal tho, i'll cut the hood
He used Banks manifolds. I'm pretty sure he sold that setup. It took a while to get it running right because of a garbage engine builder that scammed him. Once he got it running well, it threw a rod at the track the day I went to see it and that was the end of that.

Chris Chow had the same problem, looked killer with them just being exposed....

T56 is gonna be too pricey for me to build up. Gonna require 1800 in rebuild parts to get it to handle the power i hope for, and then the twin disc clutch setup with flywheel is over 800-1000. I'm just gonna get the car on the road and tune it, and get used to the power. I never driven a stick shift so a 9 second car is not the place to start
Since i found a good deal on a Th400 already built, I'd be dumb not to go that way
Mine's reverse manual and I have a megashifter, but dont like it much. I either need to modify it or ditch it. The shifter sits too far back and is at a bad angle for me. I also almost fully stripped the crap t-bar that came with it the second time I slapped it.

Still going with the SHP block? Dart told me to definitely NOT go with that block for my setup, and it's milder than yours, they said even if I went with the World block, they wouldn't want me to try with the SHP at 8+ lbs. boost with my 406. Said they wouldn't run it with over 650 or so FWHP.
yeah, i need to go over the rad. I got a 15.5" tall rad to help this. Cutting the rad top support to get 3" piping over it. Tight fit, will require pin on hood for sure.
Cut the bottom of your radiator support and extend it down 2-3" and make a bracket up top to hold the radiator.
This will allow you to run the pipe through the upper radiator support with no problems. You can weld it in like I did here.
With the hood issues for turbo's I guess adding hood pin's isn't a big deal.

Thought about that but i just used a shorter rad since i needed a rad anyway. Plus i wanted to keep the air dam the lowest part of the car.

I thought you might need as much cooling as possible. I was able to keep the stock Radiator and used Spal fans. I'm only 250cid so cooling isn't a big issue.
I'm dropping my gear ratio from 3:50's down to 3:25's this year and
A mild glass hood even though the stock one fits with no issues.
My goal last year was 10.9's on 93 but kind of went right by that on the first shake downpass (10.71@131) so with the few changes this winter I've set a new goal of
9.90's on 93oct/dragradials/full exhaust. Should be darn close!

Have you ever seen someone go THROUGH the radiator? Shop owner was telling me about this car he had back in the day and was changing cams every weekend, so he cut a hole in the radiator and welded or brazed the ends shut. I thought maybe if done right, it could make things much easier and pretty "rad" lookin. hehe.
yeah you could create a notch in the rad no problem, but i'm not doing that anytime soon THere are a bunch of ways to do a build like this and make it cleaner without so much cutting but the end result is what i'm after and the easiest way to get there is the way i want to go.

The guy mentioned above, J88l98irocz, had some problems getting the gearing right to put enough load on the turbos, but the engine wasn't very strong n/a. I don't want to lose the low end tq I have with this blower.
blower probly makes boost sooner than the turbo would, especially a nice sized single. But if you sized the turbo right, it may spool quickly. I think i went a touch small with these turbos and expect a low rpm spool and i hope i have no problems. Else i'll change out the turbine housing to some .96 a/r's instead of my .68's

i dont a 383ci motr will lose too much low end with turbo.
some dude on turbomustangs made over 700rwhp with a 4.8 and 88mm turbo, im sure a 383 will not have a prob. spooling a big single.
He's probly refering to the low rpm performance when not in boost. Blower will make boost instantly at low rpm hits and a turbo may take longer to spool.
It's more a matter of getting the right converter stall. I've got no problems spooling a
Single 76GTQ with 250cid.
People who have lag issues don't have a good combo.
A good match of stall/turbo/tune will perform better than a blower anyday... Since turbo's are a more effecient power adder.

My motor makes great torque n/a, but the blower starts making boost almost instantly. 3 psi is very noticeable. I'm sure I could keep it close with the right sizing and maybe a different cam.
looks good, i have the blue 89 T/A that im putting the twins on. Havnt worked on mine much the last two months, (work gets in the way sometimes). Yours is coming along nicely. Good Job!
I just went with a Treadstone twin turbo intercooler.. their biggest one with 9" core. its 2 2.5" inlets, 1 3" outlet over the radiator. See it in my pics on previous page. Most ppl on turbo stangs have had good luck with Treadstone, so i'm not worried. Its not a super expensive one at around 450 bucks, but its not a cheap one either like on ebay for 150-250 either
Justin, what's the part number on that IC (or link)? Not too far from you in terms of completion, as I just wrapped up the drivers side manifold. Was going to run a single T88 that I already have, but I'm starting to consider twins now myself (still undecided though). I do have an IC for a single setup that I'm just about ready to close the deal on, but I just can't decide yet....;
twins are cool but pita to build right. Mine will sit up thru the hood and i didnt really want that but i love the layout of everything so far. Just wish it was lower
Don't do that to yourself man. I hear it in your words, and your now building everything around the location of the turbo's. Just pull the headers and redo them the way you need them to be. With the exhaust manifolds that I'm using, the location of the turbo placed it right next to the alternator, just a tad over the valve cover. That location was actually pretty good, but I wasn't taking any chances, so I cut them in half and lowered them about an inch regardless....;
Forgive the look of the manifold, they'll be ceramic coated when both the flanges and wastegate tubes are welded in....

I think the car will still be street legal. It better be and has to be Else I'm screwed. I dont see why it wont be.
I'm not redoing the manifolds. Spent too much time on them to redo it all now. I just want the car done.
I gotta order accessory brackets to see how its all gonna look but i seriously doubt i have any other option on running these things without alot of clearancing and etc, or sacrificing other things. I have a plan B in mind, but i just dont have the time or energy to redo it at this point. I dont really mind them sticking out the hood, but there goes the slight sleeper look but oh well.
