Thanks, it turned out pretty good. I"m happy with it. Once i get a 4" v-band clamp, I can finish the last bits and pieces and set it on the ground to see how much clearance i have. SHould have more than last year and last year I had very little so any bit gained is a win for me

How much are you trying to get rid of the single turbo manifold for? Is it a home built one or a BBS, bbs knock off?

Its a BBS Designs one but it dont fit A/C or serpetine belt setups...atleast not the factory style one. I tried to fit it and it wont clear the AC or AC delete pulley

I had it on ebay and it didnt sell either. I'll take any reasonable offers for it at this point

Doesnt mean u cant do it...I fit twin 255s in my stock tank. It is a pain tho. It took me 4 trys to get them to go it. The filters make it hard to fit.

I connverted the top of my tank so they are -6an.

NOTE I DIDNT USE ZIP TIES, I USED 2.5INCH STEEL CLAMPS OR SOMETHING.

Re: Twin Turbo 400 Buildup- '89 Iroc-Z

The cylinder head design is much different..there are a number of things but agreed the head design has a lot to do with it. I have never not made under 550 rwhp on any of my LSx setups...and on a 97 LS1 made 430/400 with just H&C, pully, LS6 intake, and headers.

People are lucky to get 350 rear hp/tq out of a 350 SBC with the same mods. I have been trying to decided whether to go H&C on my bird or go FI....I am leaning towards the FI side but it seems that kits are very limited for these cars.

I love the TT stuff, but the kit that has looked the best to me so far that fits under the stock hood and retains most of the stock components was/is the Twin IC ATI Supercharger kit...but it looks like the Twin IC idea was scrapped.

I could invision a Single Turbo setup...I had to have a mold made for my Twin Turbo on my C5...all of a sudden I am the owner of a hood mold...luckily people buy them and one day I may actually make back the money I spent of have the mold fabricated. I would rather not do that again...so for the bird...I would like something that fits under the stock hood...or the ram air hood.

Orr's TT build is fantastic too watch and I'm impressed that he is doing it himself (I can't weld). I had to draw up the design for my kit and send it to the fabricator along with the car...I have similiar build pics in my sig.

It will be nice too see how it perform after the final tune and track test n tune.

Didn't read through it all but you do realize those hard line adapters are for low pressure applications only right? The soft brass ferrule does not have enough bite in a steel line to seal against higher pressure, I certainly hope it won't leak on you. Swagelock makes some (expensive) hard line adapters that would definitely work, another option would be to use an flares, nuts & sleeves. Working with non seamless stock tubing however means you need a double flaring tool ($$$$)

I havent updated this in a while and made some progress since last post but no pics really. Wont get a chance to work on it this weekend but within 2 more weekends i should have this thing running.

Quote:

I'm impressed with myself too haha since i knew very little about turbocharging 2 months or so before starting this build. I've learned a ton in a short time but i got an engineering background so i pick up quickly i guess. I can tack weld and weld exhaust pipes somewhat ok, but for the manifolds and cold side piping, i had my buddy tig/mig that stuff since he's better than me by a long shot and i dont have tig welder. My welds arent always pretty as i'm still learning haha. But what i have done so far I am pretty impressed. I have an idea to improve the setup but will not pursue due to time/money etc. I want to move the turbos to a different location and lower to keep them under stock hoods.

The fuel system is almost done and i was gonna get ready to post alot of pics and info about it. I may get some up tonight but i'm running Lonnies Performance twin walbro in-tank setup for 4th gen LS1 tank, as I'm running a 4th gen LS1 tank now. Thirdgen tank has smaller inlet opening so you have to fish the pumps inside and i guess assemble in tank. MAJOR PITA, so i picked up a LS1 tank for 50 bucks and have the below setup.

Dual pumps sit in the factory bucket and Y into the supply line. Push style connectors on the plastic outlets into a -8 an supply line and -6 return. Fuel Lab filter and regulator. Racetronix wiring harness for this setup with Hobbs boost switch to activate the other pump. Special fuel level sender for 0-90 ohm stock style gauges. Bolts right in so far.

when u get it running could you let me know if you get the smaller 5/16 flanges on the hookers to seal. i never could get a seal on a na motor really wondering about a turbo setup.
my turbo setup uses 3/8 thick ss flanges and will somtimes leak but im runnin silicone and no gasket.

These are advertised at 3/8". Would have been cheaper just to get laser cut THICK flanges and start welding pipes to it, but these had stubouts already welded on.

I hope these seal, they got a good flat surface and I'll be using silicone and a copper gasket

Do not have part numbers for these. I got the whole kit from Lonnies Performance, not sure what the fittings are but I believe summit has them. Just dont know the partnumber.
Pure Choice Motorsports has them i do believe.

Something like that will work. Or call Lonnies Performance to see if he can ship you some

I'm looking forward to hearing your opinion on the power delivery. My blower added a lot of power but made the car pull smoother. With an auto trans its just not as fun as I thought it would be. The initial launch is amazing though. The car pulls like a jet, just doesn't have that kick in the ***. I've been debating either switching to a turbo to get maybe a more spikey powerband or going with a stick...

Re: Twin Turbo 400 Buildup- '89 Iroc-Z

This upcoming week and weekend I should have the car pretty much complete. My fuel lines are pretty much done, just need to run the wiring harness for the pumps. Got an electric water pump to put on, so all I need now is an alternator bracket and modify factory powersteering bracket. Should fit ok.

Got to repin the ecm and it should be ready to go. I mean there are some little things to do to make it complete but so far all major stuff is done. Rest shouldn't be too hard to do, atleast I dont think. Last major item i need is a driveshaft.

I just bought a 99 Trans Am for my daily driver since it was at a price i just could not pass up. I just felt like driving it this weekend and not working on the camaro haha. Big car show here Aug 7 so I want to have the camaro somewhat driveable by then. It could happen if I really put in the time this week and weekend.

With my car being a stalled automatic, I dont think its gonna have a kick in the *** type pull. Not like the nitrous 383 last year, that thing was fun but filling up bottles got annoying and pricey. I hope this car does deliver instant boost and hooks up well. It should be a very fun car to drive, but the power band will be smooth. If the turbos were bigger and took longer to spool, you would fill that huge rush of power come on as the turbos started to spool up. With these smaller turbos, it should kick on pretty darn quick and deliver loads of power quickly, but smoothly. Smooth pull I think is because of the broad flat torque curve it will make and a nice steady climb in hp. Its not going to be a spikey curve I dont think.

yeah he did the pumps and fuel line kit with all fittings needed. However with my setup i did have to order a few fittings inorder to get the fit I wanted. My rails I thought were -8an o-ring fittings but they turned out to be 3/8NPT so i got new fittings for the rails and then a 45 deg fitting on the rear rail to allow the return line to bend around the distributor. I'll get pics of all the stuff this weekend as i hope to have alot more done and ready to take pics.

As far as the cam, I believe i posted it somewhere here. Grind is a custom hyd. roller from Mike Jones Cams. Its a 292/292 advertised 233/233 at .050 with .564 lift on a 112 LSA. I wanted it to peak in the 5800-6000 range and I do hope it does so i can shift 6200 ish. With my tire size and gear I will eventually run, it should be good to 145-150 mph in the 1/4 which is kinda where I want to be on high boost/race gas mix

The cam grind I got is a lot smaller that yours. It's almost a peanut came with high lift. : )

233/233 on a 112 in a 401 isnt big at all really. This cam was designed for a 383 until i changed blocks to a 400 SHP block and Mike Jones said to stick with same specs. What is your grind?

Its not going to be smooth man, 800+ hp is never smooth no matter how it comes on. It will be kinda violent, currently my car lites up the mickey thompson rolling into the nitrous in third gear on the street.. Granted that is n20 but only maybe 675ish HP and a standard at 4000 rpm only.. Its going to be more fun than youl like at first probably, and downright scary..

It's smaller than my NA cam was and it wasn't all that big.

yeah sorry for no updates as alot has been done since then. It will be downright scary haha and I hope it is. I need the thrills.

Car is in final assembly mode and I'm having a few problems getting all the flanges lining up perfect as for some reason, its not lining up in final assembly as compared to mockup, so minor setbacks. Soon as I get these downpipes connected, I can hook up the rest of the exhaust and then engine accessories and it will be ready to fire.

ECM harness is rewired to 730 pinouts, and I have the driveshaft finally which was the last part. I cant wait, but soon as its together I'll get good updated pics of everything from fuel system to air filters

Awaiting brackets again... ordered march kit to go with CSR waterpump. HOpe it fits.

Heres quick tease of somewhat final assembly. ABit messy with the lines and such but i just need it running for now. At some point i'll clean it up with AN lines for the vacuum stuff or just rerun everything to clean it up.

THought about making a fuel rail cover and/or dizzy/top end motor cover

Summit radiator overflow catch can mounted below battery box area

Vacuum line runs and shot of the oil feed assembly for the turbos. Ordered abit shorter 4an line than i needed so i used fittings to make up the distance. Worked out great.

Moroso vented breather can for valve cover venting. No pcv on this car anymore

think the wastegates have 6-7 psi spring in them. Once i tune on that i'll turn it up to around 12-15, whatever it can handle on pump gas
