Well did some more tuning and now have boost controller set to 12 psi. Going to bump it again to get 13 and call it a day. That should put me at 800-825 hp on motor. Car feels very strong but runnin abit richer than i want. Going to lean it down a touch more and start desensitizing the knock sensor, as it pulls out 4 deg no matter what timing i have in there.
Dude that looks TOUGH with the turbo's showing. I think it would look kinda goofy with two bubbles the the front to cover them. As a bunch of people have said, leave em showin!
What did you do with the pressure sensor(evap system) and charcoal canister on the LS1 tank? Also I'm needing the tube and filler neck for the LS1 tank any suggestions?

left the charcoal canister on the tank. Ditched all of my old evap system. Left the stock LS1 canister vented to air. I used a factory 4th gen rubber hose and metal filler neck, and its just laying in the opening of the gas cap. Works fine for me. Just a hint of gas smell if you leave it parked after long ride but seems to be doing its job, car runs abit rich at times so i smell gas regardless.
For those following that havent seen my latest outing to the track, the car went 10.07 at 137.7 on 12 psi, 10.06 at 139.2 on about 13psi (12.9 on datalogs) and 10.02 at 140.3 on about 14psi (13.8 on datalogs). Pump gas, 93 oct, no meth injection and ok 1.56-1.60 60 foots
Car has been 9.73 at 142 on a higher boost attempt but didnt work out like i expected. I was guessing it would have done 9.5's at 145ish oh well. 9.86 at 141 is best on 14psi pump gas
I'm gonna use the $59 as long as i can until i feel necessary to change over to sequential... I think this system is more than fine for 1000hp. Seems to be good for my estimate 800-850 so far and I do plan to hit 1000 crank hp with it someday. If I go for more then I may go to a whole different turbo setup and management anyway to ensure best distribution of air and fuel to all cylinders. Right now I only monitor 1 bank and have not been able to check both sides for air fuel or individual cylinders like I really wanted to.
Just awesome man.. and still on a stock ECM and a stock 10 bolt LOL.
Did that intercooler fit up front by just unbolting the crash bar or did you have to cut off the ends of the frame rails? Did you have to trim any of the nose skin? I've got a guy dropping off an ATI FMIC tomorrow morning that I'm might buy it if looks like it will fit mine.

It fits fine with room to spare under the nose skin. I just cut the crash bar off between the frame rails and welded mounting tabs for the cooler. There are pics somewhere in this thread
Looks like you are going to give the Dart SHP block a real workout and see how good Carl's work is.
Yeah, he did do a great job with the machining so i'm confident the block is strong. As long as i keep the tune safe it should handle that power just fine as i'm not really spinning this motor high at all. I figured I've been close to 900 crank already so only a few more psi away from being called 1000hp. Need to get on a dyno and start tuning it. Hope to discover how much psi 93 octane can handle with no meth. I think it can do 16 just fine as its seen 15.5 by accident with no signs of problems that I can tell.

Do you fell that cutting it affected the chassie some?

It may have made the front noise twist abit more as I cut the top of the rad support off too. WHen I did that I saw the left and ride sides no longer match up. I did put a small piece of metal to brace and realign that top rad support but not sure how much it actually helps.

It looks mean as hell... I'm thinking clean up the edges and paint it...
Thanks, thats what i'm thinking. Gonna clean up the cuts and try to form it closer to the shape of the turbo as i can and leave it at that for now
very kool i've been talking about this left and right to all kinds of people. Definetly inspiring .......... a streetable 9 second fuel injected car has to be just to much fun, if it start getting too rough on you, you can always give it to me haha.

I ran my old 305 on 16 psi with 94 octane and no intercooling. It was an LT1 cam, so hardly any pressure bleeding, but I did have about 7.5:1 compression. It was also carb'd and that cools down the intake a bit, 40* from what I hear. I was only running about 21* timing also.
Motor was all stock and I didn't care if it blew. Are you working on getting a better knock sensor setup? I've noticed some speckling on my plugs with 9 psi, leaky cam, 93 octane, 28*, but only a 13:1 afr. I was too nervous about using just 93 while playing with my timing and use meth now.
Ultimate goal will be to run meth injection but for now I am still working out some bugs.
I dont know what other knock sensor systems there are and to be honest i havent checked my plugs lately.... knock on wood haha but I do notice the computer is pulling 4 degrees during WOT... doesnt seem to matter what my timing is it will still pull timing. I had 110 octane mixed with 93 and it still pulled timing but NO way it could have been knocking/detonating. It was a 50/50 mix 110 to 93 fuel. I mean I think i was at 16.5psi boost with like 18-19 degree if you subtract 4 from the computer and around 10.3 to 1 air fuel ratio. This crap tune still went 9.73 tho. Even on the street after i got home i turned boost back down to 11.5psi and it was still pulling timing.
When i first started tuning 10 psi, it was pulling 4 deg so i bumped down 2 degree in the table and it still pulled 4 so I'm not sure if its sensing false knock from surounding noise?
My current street tune is closer to 11.8 to 1 air fuel at 11-12.5 psi with 22-23 degree timing in the table, ecm pulling 4 deg it says. If the weather stays clear the rest of this week I'm gonna get back up to 14psi to start leaning that out just a touch. It was around 11 to 1 at the track when I ran 9.8's and I want it to be closer to 11.5 to 1. 21 deg timing in the table at that point.
I will be going to the dyno this weekend to get a baseline at 14psi and may try a chip with 2-3 degree less timing than what i have now, and then another chip with 2-3 degree more timing to see if the car picks up anything. Its a dyno day so I may only get 3 pulls.
Local tuning shop told me at 10 psi they would run 21 deg timing I think it was but that seems WAY low to me for 93 oct but I dont know much about tuning for boost. I got 25 degrees or so after 4400 rpm at 10psi.

i've noticed with the stock settings for timing in 59 that once it pulls timing, it leaving it out for a very long time. which is good for boost when the tune is right, but working with my n/a car i noticed that i had a lean point in AE and it caused it to pull timing, which it held all the way out thru the pull. it had me pulling timing out of the whole rpm band at wot chasing it. once i lowed the amount of time it takes to add timing back in. i figured out is was the AE doing it.
so maybe if you getting a small blip of knock somewhere, it might just be holding it out. i'd be carful with the setting thou. F6 and F7 are how fast it it pulls(i think) and how fast it feeds it back in once knock is gone.
hey Orr89RocZ, just curiosity here but how much do you think you have spent on your car?
This is the greatest question around here...and I quote the greatest answer " Asking how much we spent on our cars is like asking how big our wifes tits are"....

You know i bet thats what it is... i do have a very rich AE condition I think but do not think its causing the knock. I know my tune is NOT perfect and far from it. I just dont like the idea it holds timing out like that without me having the ability to control how much timing is pulled per rpm like other codes use. That way if it is false knock, i'd beable to control it better by limiting the amount pulled.
I did notice on my burnout on my quick attempt at race gas tune, it pulled as high as 10 degree at one spot, just at the intial throttle stomp to get tires rolling. Not sure why so I think it may be something in there with AE. Can too rich be causing this?

some would say a pump gas street car that can run 9s on mph and not needing a 1.3 60 is priceless
I do agree, its pretty sweet But now i'm greedy to get more ET for my power...speed is a hell of a drug.

But please do tell..... Round to the nearest thousand
I totalled up the turbo build this year and it was interesting how much things added up...but i dont have my list anymore so I"m not sure exactly how much it was
I want to guess it was approaching 15 grand for entire setup from motor to trans to driveshaft to fuel system..but may be abit higher.. this doesnt include the money i spent on interior/roll cage/suspension mods/old 383 which i reused the heads/valvetrain stuff from that motor for this motor I should have bought a C5 Z06 like i wanted
Orr, your car and a few other of our cars are all in the priceless range given all the time we've put into them. Your car honestly should be submitted to any of the popular mags like Super Chevy, Camaro Performers, GM Hi-Tech, etc. The ONLY thing that would make your car the cat's *** (IMO) is a T56 or 5 speed built to handle that power
And to think i had the T56 laying here.... oh well
Thanks for the compliments but I dont know if its quite magazine worthy...maybe a page in one of them but compared to some of the other cars out there its not quite as impressive
yes to rich can cause knock.. I read a great paper about that, I'll look around for it when I get a min. as for timing, you can have it feed it back in at different times by rpms.
dude, you dont gotta be modest, just the other day i was reading about the crusher camaro, a 67 camaro with a supercharger, and they were talking about the build,
in my opinion thats nothing compared to the custom work ive seen in your car, like the custom headers and other stuff
the reason i like it is because its something anyone can build in their garage with a cutoff wheel, chop saw and sawzall and a budget welder. Hand fabbed everything and it really wasnt all that bad once you got the hang of it and got the "vision" of what it is suppose to look like

damn it, i need to get to work on some turbo headers this winter
an old co worker got his 70's monte in super chevy, with a mild 400, 9in and horrible faded yellow paint.
your car is worthy of the cover imo!

MOst DEFINITELY! Remember that old TA with the twins on a stock 350 that went 9's called the GRENADE? That made the cover, and isnt near as nice as ur car.
haha yeah, but 9's on stock 350 is much more impressive and interesting story than a built 400 motor creeping into the 9's Oh well, we'll see what happens.

Yeah it was impressive, but he did have a decent cam in it. Keep in mind that he was running C116 and spraying it with a 75 shot to cool it and make it into the 9s. You are doing it with 93 octane from what I read.
Nice build. I would be scared as heck going 9s on a stock rear end though. At least put some C-clip eliminators in.

Oh yeah, and there's no reason that you shouldnt be able to run 19-22 psi on 93..and 21-25 on meth.
You think so? I may try 16psi tonight but was afraid that be pushing it on 93 octane and 9 to 1 compression... but i dont have alot of timing in this motor so that helps
