Budget Heads for Blown 305

I have a 91 TPI 305 with a lot of miles but still runs great!
I have a D1SC Supercharge in the closet
I also have a TPIS Bigmouth base, AS&M Runners and Ported Plenum in there too (all polished)

I know 86Z (user on this board) has almost 400 HP and pretty much the same setup... Though he has some SR World Products 305 Heads that have a 1.94 intake (As opposed to the stock 1.84)...

These heads run about $550 from Summit (not shipped).

I looked into L98 (casting 113) heads... but after finding a nice set, or a set I hope is nice and paying to have them redone (if thay can be), I'm almost at $1000...

Trick Flow makes some nice aluminum heads for $1200...

My theory, get some reman heads with 1.94 intake and save a bunch of $$$...

Like these...

I know the aluminum heads can handle more, but will I get $1000 worth of more power from them?

I want to go from stock compression of 9.5 to about 9 or so...

Stock 305 heads are 58 cc, what would they need to be to drop compression to 9 or so?

Any advice would be appreciated?

Thanks,

Rafael

It all depends on just how much boost you are planning on running. Even Bauer would tell you that any head will really get the job done, so long as it's cleaned up the right way, and matched to the particular application. That 1.84" intake valve propelled a twin turbo '86 Trans Am with a 350 into the low nines, and an even smaller 1.77" intake valve has propelled many a Grand National into the tens, so it's really just a matter of how much boost the engine can handle, and how much you plan on running. Note that not one LC2 came forged from the factory, they were all cast....

Not necessarily, as I've seen more broken aluminum heads on the track than cast iron. Also, once you start throwing methanol into the equation, the only real advantage with aluminum is weight savings....

Find a set of 882 heads for cheap (1.94 / 1.60, 76-cc, 8:5.1) and clean them up....

Edit: You'll have to elongate the intake though w/the earlier 882 heads....
