Vids of my twin turbo 401 on the street

Did a quick drive on the street today testing out a new roll bar camera mount i made. Works well.

Also testing the tune again and doing some WOT runs. Took first gear to over 6000 rpm to see howit looks. Did some throttle mashes to see how AE enrichment was doing, seems to be ok. Cars ready to race i think

Wow awesome stuff.. man you can hear your turbos screaming while mine I can barely hear at all. Hopefully when I tie my wastegate into the downpipe I'll be able to hear the turbo like yours.

You need some straight roads around there!

Re: Vids of my twin turbo 401 on the street

From my calcs, I would guess its near if not over 700 hp crank, but hard to say until I track it. It feels quicker than my nitrous 383 but this car blows the tires off more often than it hooks so i'm not sure how quick it is. Definately more violent in the midrange than the nitrous 383. On those straights where it did hook, it feels like its accelerating as fast as the nitrous car but its been soo long since i've been in a fast car I cant compare. I'm already used to this cars speed so it feels slow to me

If i can get my idle back in shape, i'll be racing it this weekend to find out how fast it is.

Hey, your Check Engine light is on.

Just kidding.

Always fun to drive around with way more power than you could ever put to the ground on the street. Sounds absolutely badass. Fine work.

Its not anywhere NEAR as loud as the 383 was last year...that car was BRUTAL loud under throttle. This car is much more mild mannered which is what I wanted.

Eh wouldnt say that. Its probably a quick one but definately some other faster cars here, Iroc or not. Street car category, maybe one of the quicker ones as I hope to be a 9 second car but not sure i can get that on pump gas or not, we'll see. Race gas to me doesnt count as street car

Re: Vids of my twin turbo 401 on the street

I think you would be fine around 10 psi with 91 octane? That should give you at least 700 at the crank which should be enough for 9's. If not, there's always alcohol injection to up the timing or boost if you'd like to keep it a pump gas 9 second car.

That thing hits hard!

Re: Vids of my twin turbo 401 on the street

on 93 octane now. Was running 25-26 degrees timing at 10psi at 11 to 1 air fuel, but computer showed 4 degree being pulled by knock sensor so i backed down to 23 and still seeing 4 pulled so i think its bogus false knock... I'm kinda nervous about it tho, 26 doesnt seem excessive for 10 psi but maybe it is... AFR is efficient so maybe it wont matter to run less timing. We'll see. I hope to get baseline this weekend onthis tune/10psi level to see how fast it will go as is. If results are promising, i'll hit it with 15+ psi and race gas the next and final weekend to see what happens.

car feels quick, definately as fast as the nitrous setup, much stronger in the low range but its been awhile since i drove a fast car so I'm not sure how quick this thing is. I trapped 128 last year and to go 9's with so so launch, i gotta be seeing near 138 mph I would think and this thing doesnt feel that fast... then again my 383 didnt feel fast and i expected lower 12's first time out and it went 11.6's at 116..later hitting 11.4's at 118-119 with more tuning. Speed is hard to judge, i get used to it fairly quickly.

Anything in the low 10/high 9 zone that you can drive on the street with pump gas is something to be proud of, especially if you built it yourself. There's always somebody faster, but NOT MANY FROM WHERE YOU ARE NOW!

It's not like somebody in a new megabucks ZR1 Vette is going to suck your headlights out if you happen to roll up on them at a redlight.

Good point. My goal last year was to be C5 Z06 fast on motor, C6 Z06 fast on spray...this year i guess you can say ZR1 fast haha but never really thought about it like that.

Zr1 i thought made like 630ish hp but they are definately very quick cars. 10's easily all day long on drag radials I believe. HOpefully the weather stays nice this weekend and i can get some track time to see how good my tune is

Re: Vids of my twin turbo 401 on the street

Any idea what your IATs are? Mine should have been around 180 before the alky injection, based on my calcs and what reps have said. I had my timing locked at 32* and was pulling 1* per psi. I picked up some power going to 1/2, but nothing after that, by SOTP feel anyway. My compression is about 9:1 and 175 psi cranking.

Once I added the alcohol, going from 1/2* to 0 made a difference I could feel, so it was probably detonating a little earlier when I went past 28*, but nothing I could see on the plugs. This was with 91 octane.

They say every degree is 5hp. I figured I made plenty of power for the street anyway so I wasn't going to push the timing. At the track I planned on just running race gas, but now with the alcohol injection, I don't have to worry about any of that I guess.

People say it really feels like I picked up 100hp. If I dropped my IAT 100 degrees, that would be a 10% power increase, 63hp. Increasing the timing to 32* from 24 should have been another 40 and what do you know, 100hp.

I'm hoping to get my car down to cecil within the next 3 weeks. Got some broken wheel studs to fix and need to replace a $300 tire for the mud/tow truck.

Re: Vids of my twin turbo 401 on the street

I gotta check my logs again for IATs to see what the computer was seeing... I think it was in the mid high 130 degree range MOST of the time including my short bursts in boost.

But since i've only done 2 second pulls it may not have time to really heat up. Will find out this weekend tho I'll log my entire 1/4 run and see what happens.

Looks killer man! Looks like it gets pretty violent! I will be there today, think I am taking both cars, will have generator and you are welcome to use if you like, just bring and extension cord and charger.. Also taking my Video Camera but I am sure my dad will refuse to use it, using disc for better quality.
