P1SC Procharger Q's - surge valve hose / filter / belt / fuel

Hey guys -

For those with P1SC, or any ATI kit knowledge really. ..

I've had the P1SC on for over a year now. Haven't touched it much since and am looking for ways to improve the current setup with some basic Q's I've never gotten around to asking.

1. Surge valve hose. Read several posts on just leaving the hose off and putting a small K&N on the end of the surge, the venting to atmosphere sound doesn't bother me. My question is; originally we could not get the reinforced hose coming off the elbow by the head unit/filter (red-stripe pictured) to route back to the surge, so it's just open and pointing to the fender, not capped. Should I just take that off and cap it at that elbow by the big K&N? Has it hindered anything by not capping it?

2. Have the std. K&N that came with the kit (RE-0870 I think). Would a larger one make any difference and does anyone have a part # if so? (4" flange diameter)

3. Have 24lb injectors & the ATI FMU. Thinking about upgrading to 28lb'rs and ditching the FMU if I can tune accordingly. Thoughts/suggestions?

4. Have a 3.7" blower pulley with offhand I think a 64.5" belt. Boost is ~7-8psi currently and I'm thinking of going to a 3.4" pulley. Read the belt required for 3.4 is about the same size, which I doubt. Anyone know, or I'll prob just end up getting 1 to test if seems loose. Hoping that's not too much boost for a stock long block either if it truly raises it a few psi.

Anyways, your knowledge & advice is much appreciated on any of these items.

Re: P1SC Procharger Q's - surge valve hose / filter / belt / fuel

1. Not capping it may allow the procharger to suck in air from the fender area and maybe some dirt......

2. Doesnt look like the RE-0870, It looks like the RE-0950. The RE-0870 is a 4" * 9" long filter.A bigger filter may not be needed for you but not wrong. Check out http://www.knfilters.com/search/univcone.aspx for dimensions. RE-0870 have been working on a 800rwhp LS6 so it flows good.

3. If you plan on ditching FMU get bigger ones.

4. I always test...........

You will need bigger than 28 lb/hr injectors without the FMU

assuming 300 FWHP N/A
300*((14.7+8)/14.7) = 463HP

42 lb/hr at .60 bsfc, 85% DC => 42*8*.85 / .60 = 475HP

Get 42 lb/hr injectors at a minimum

Re: P1SC Procharger Q's - surge valve hose / filter / belt / fuel

The only reason for the filter is to keep mice from crawling in during the winter If the blower is running I see now way that air could be sucked in. I talked to a guy last week that had a P-1 setup in a pickup for street use. Has run it with just a hose off the valve for years. That said I will run a closed loop system back to the inlet side of the blower.

yes it can, on the inlet side where he has the hose.

But on the Valve its not possible. I just vent it, without a hose.........

Re: P1SC Procharger Q's - surge valve hose / filter / belt / fuel

gta324 - So by not capping the inlet on the blower elbow, it's more of a precautionary measure, not that it's harming performance? I'll see if I can find a rubber cap of some sort and ditch the hose altogether.

You're right, after measuring it's the 3.5" flange and 6" long, prob RE-0950. Thanks for the K&N link. There is a RE-0920 that seems to be the larger 9" replacement.

tom86iroc - Thanks for the belt part #, I'll have to compare that to what I have. Is yours a P1, or D1, what psi is it putting out and how is your performance with it may I ask?

junkcltr - Thanks for the quick calc. It's coming back to me now that I was planning on the 28's if I kept the FMU, because that's about what I should be needing as it is now, but I'm getting by with the 24's and a good fuel system. 42's ought to do the trick if I decide to ditch the FMU.

I'll be searching for low 12's, high 11's next year, so every little bit I can squeeze out of this setup would be great. A 3.40 pulley would put me over 10psi and get me closer if I can avoid belt slippage and blowing anything up of course.

Or just call Procharger and order an inlet elbow without the hole in it. Or locate your local Gates Rubber dealer and have them order one for you since they supply the elbows to Procharger to cut the holes in.

Thats what I mean. Hole on the inlet side will suck in air, hole on the outlet side will blow air out. No way for air to come in.

My inlet side uses a 45* degree 4 inch aluminium elbow then the filter. Actually the setup pictured looks very similar to mine except I have solid Al from filter to blower. If the red stripe hose is open it is sucking in unfiltered air.

Looking at you picture I wonder where the bypass valve is?
