Mixed Opinions on Turbo & S/C.

Hey all, im looking for everybody's best opinion on a power adder question for a 91 Z28 with the LB9 & 5-speed. I recently found this sweet-looking kit from ssautochrome:
http://www.ssautochrome.com/level.itml/icOid/1844

ive read some great reviews of this company's products and some simply god-awful reviews describing things like "disintegrated turbos". If that is the case, could i just order the headers/hardware/ect & then swap in different turbos? If so, which would be best?

Ive also looked into this kit from vortech. It looks pretty sano, but is obv more expensive:
http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/product.php?p=106

i assume this kit would fit the 5.0 as well as the 5.7 engine? im just looking for members opinions cuz ive looked around on the web & this is obviously the place to go for ANYTHING to do with 3rd gen. lemme know what u all think!!

I could easily fab the tubing myself, i just wouldnt know which turbo/headers/hardware (like controller, ecu, injectors) to buy. thats why the 1st kit looked enticing, even if the turbos are bad i could use the other parts, which from all reviews ive read seem up to par. what turbo would b the best choice for the twin setup?

A: SSauto makes a good shape manifold, its just thin and cheap material. You can reinforce it with a tig by adding some filler at the right heat.

B: To size a turbo you need to size everything else. I need to know:
Displacement, camshaft profile, head port/overall flow capability, rear end gear ratio, transmission type / converter stall, desired power goal, and finally expected behavior (street car?)

Re: Mixed Opinions on Turbo & S/C.

Its hit or miss with the SSA stuff. head over here and do some good reading on everything also
http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/index.php

Twin T3/T4 hybrids would do you good for a nice street car. Even stock 60/63 T'3s of some turbo coupes would work well.

like king said. need more info. Whats your end goals with the car?

Re: Mixed Opinions on Turbo & S/C.

I just recently bought the car. I know everything is stock, but i dont know what the gear ratio on the rear end is or the cam profile or stuff like that, sorry But my goal is to keep the lb9 & try to put over 400 horses to the wheels, as much power as is relatively cheap, but it has to be reliable. I dont know if that's a super realistic goal, but in reality i dont care as much about the #'s, i just want 2 have a hella fun street setup with good strong acceleration and a decent top end speed that i dont have to worry about problems with. I found this kit on ebay as well, it looks pretty trick. I would just have to fab my own downpipes and get an exhaust that fits. Im pretty new at this game, so bear with me Thanks for the feedback too, u guys know your stuff.

There's also one available with different header style, but i'm partial to the 1st one, i like the "up-top" orientation of the turbos better.

Re: Mixed Opinions on Turbo & S/C.

I thought my question had died weeks ago. haha. I decided to stay away from ssac, and havent done anything but ponder since then. What do u think about the kits on ebay? they seem way more trick than the supercharger system. especially for the price.
