I finnally got my new car, its a 99 firebird with the 3800 series II engine. May my totaled 92 'maro rest in peace, well since this is the best board out here, I got a question for you's.
I found this supercharger for my bird, my car never had a supercharger on it and the people selling the s/c weren't anyhelp.
It is a Gm 3800 series II Supercharger (rebuilt) it was meant to go on my type of engine which had it on already, but Mine dont. So what I wanta know is will it work on my car and what kind of things should I expect to have to buy to get this thing to work. I know I will have to reroute my intake to my airbox because it will get flipped around backwards, and I know I will have to get a longer fan belt.
So how does it get installed.
On a side note, I plann on this being the 3rd mod after I do whole new exhuast and buy the ram air hood(gives more air and the clearence)

those series two made some good power. first you need to find out what the compression of the engine you have is as well as what the series two "blower" motor is and compare. secondly you need to make sure you got the blower that will fit. is it a series two blower or a series three? and will a series three blower fit? If you can get the actual nuts and bolts of this thing to fit then you could use an FMU from vortech or cartech to supply the extra fuel through the injectors, no custom chip or programmable ECM's needed. I figure a 4:1 or 6:1 fmu might do it. another thing to think about is the throttle body. will yours fit? and will it be on the correct end of the engine. if I remember correctly the throttle body bolts on at the opposite end of the engine on the front driven blower cars.
this is the link to the supercharger. I will still do some more research to find the answers to all those questions. And I will have to get a good look at my engine, cause I really havn't had long enough to get a good mental picture of what the engine looks like now. I check it out tommorow. Thanks for the help.
You could also buy a complete engine and computer from a car with the super. That way you will have all the parts and might be able to just swap the SC ECU in and not have to worry about tuning.

this may not be too bad of an idea as long as you are going to use an auto behind it. the 700r4/4l60e is adaptable to it. but from the kit car builders (they pioneered the S/C 3.8 swaps into fieros) tell us that no manual transmissions were used behind this motor and the crank lacks a pilot bearing provisional hole. it can be machined but require total engine dissasembly and crankshaft removal. http://www.thirdgen.org/rides/index....ew&rideid=3980
keep in mind all the cars with the blown 3.8 were fwd, and have a transverse mounted engine. It will probably be a real pain to get that setup to work on a 99 firebird.
That link is also for the supercharger itself, in order to get it on the car, you'd need the intake manifold from a gtp/ssei/regal gs, and the pulley system the charger uses on the crank.
i'd search through the boards at clubgp.com. There are at least a few people who have done the swap on a FWD car, so that would be a good starting point, to see what issues there are.
In all my time lingering around the Grand Prix boards, it's a general consensus that swapping the SC from a supercharged 3.8 onto a non-supercharged is an amazing undertaking. Can it be done ? Sure. Is it worthwhile ? Probably not. Working off of memory here, the SC version of the 3800 has a different intake manifold (lower), heads (same cast, different injector placement and internals), pistons, different injectors, PCM, and I believe some misc sensors not on the non-SC models. I'm not sure if there are any differences between the FWD and RWD 3.8 motors like there were with some GM V6's in the past. As far as PCM goes, you could probably take the engine management section of the GTP and merge it with the chassis management of the f-body and come out with something that works. Does anyone know off the top of their heads if Paxton/Powerdine/any other SC company makes a kit for the 3.8 ?
GM buillt factor SC 3.8 cars from the factory :-) Too bad their australian only :-( check out the Holden(GM Australia) sites and see what u can find since all the rwd cars their are SeriesII SeriesIISC and LS1 equipped im sure u willl be able to find parts etc and someone to talk too :-)
later
Iv talked to some other people about the SC and any front wheel drive's car SC wouldn't work or be hard to get to work on my car, someone suggested getting a paxton kit, what do you guys think about this?
