nitrous on a motor not built for it?

The motors a 355 that was designed to be N/A, right now its stock crank and rods, balanced n blueprinted with some i think JE forged flat top 4 relief pistons. Its got some 64cc, 180cc iron eagle heads, making around 280hp 315ft lbs to the wheels. I should have around 10.4:1 compression

The future for the motor has some brodix 180cc race rite heads and a fuel system to keep up with it and thats about all for this motor.

Was wondering if either the current combination or the combo with brodix heads would like nitrous much, or if it would put my compression way too high.

Re: nitrous on a motor not built for it?

piston ring gap will be the limiting factor, nitrous likes wider ring gaps. Also the engine has stock rods and crank but some of the most expensive pistons in it?

Re: nitrous on a motor not built for it?

i might have the wrong company for the pistons, but the shop i was dealing with could get forged pistons for almost the same price as hyper's so i said why not, i got kinda scammed on the whole deal but lets not go there, my car no longer goes to that shop for a reason, wasted a lot of money and its truly my own fault.

As far as ring gap, im sorry but it makes me sick how ignorant i am when it comes to this stuff, i have no experience with cars besides everything ive learned in the 3 or 4 years of owning my camaro, which is getting to be a descent bit.

Is ring gap determined by the type of piston used? or is it to do with how the motor is setup? I think tommorow im going to head back to the shop and get a proper build sheet for what exactly went into my motor because im not 100% on everything, just stuff like exactly what pistons were used, what timing chain, all of the top end stuff was my choosing

any reason you going with race rite 180's instead of something actually worth money like AFR 195's??

i have race rite 200's i wish i didnt buy them.. shoulda got either vic jr's or AFR's from the start..

Re: nitrous on a motor not built for it?

ring gap has to do with the type of application you're using (n/a, nitrous, boost etc) As far as the heads go, i dont see much power gained going from 180cc darts to 180cc brodix race rite heads. I would rather go to the 195cc eliminator AFR's or the vic jr's like 5678ta said. You'll be much happier you did in the end.

Re: nitrous on a motor not built for it?

well as far as ive always thought 180cc heads are better for a 350, 195-200cc heads are better for a 383. I need to upgrade from my darts because im an idiot for even buying them, they flow something like 8cfm intake and 15 cfm exhaust better then stock theyre kind of a joke.

I made 275 hp 315 ft lbs with the stock TB and a bad drivetrain vibration, my vibrations almost sorted out, and a 52mm BBk is going on the engine, hoping to pull a tad more out of it but not much. My goal for this motor is in the 375hp 400 ft lb range at the wheels.

The other issue i have is i have a stealth ram intake and i dont want to have to deal with getting it welded and machined to be able to accept the 1016 intake gasket that you need for basically all 200cc heads.

Its got a 274 cam in it right now with stock rockers and lifters but those would be upgraded to 1.6 rollers when i get better heads. The cam is staying in this motor i have no intentions of changing that, ill be beating on this thing until its had enough then drop a 383 in it (down the road....hopefully lol).

i had looked at the race rites because on a chevy article it had the brodix-8 which i assumed was the race right, and it had some pretty good flow numbers

The other thing about going to a larger CC head is my powerband is already peaking at 6000 and i really dont want it higher then that. I didnt want to fully shell out the cash for AFR's, the brodix IK series heads seem to make good power but probably as expensive as the afr's

and worst case if i fall just shy of my goals ill just throw a 50 shot on it

Re: nitrous on a motor not built for it?

i also want to say that i forgot the race rite heads were aluminum as opposed to the cast iron darts.. that should be worth some more HP. You must have a pretty small cam to have a 10.5:1 motor with a decent set of heads to only put down 275whp. I would say get some aluminum heads, run a bit more timing and maybe put a bigger cam in. A 52mm TB isnt going to really do anything on a naturally aspirated motor as the stock 48mm flows plenty more air that you're car uses. its just a waste of $300+ IMO. i agree with the nitrous as well, no problem even a 100 shot could be used, i spray 150 on my stock 305 just fine.

Re: nitrous on a motor not built for it?

aluminum isnt worth AnY horsepower, i think it was chevy high tech that actually did an article running two identical heads of different materials and it made absolutly no difference.

I'm actually running a 274 cam, 224/230 at .050 the cam will make 400 hp with 1.6 rockers to the wheels, as i said the dart iron eagle heads barely outflow stock, wish i hadnt wasted money on them, but i needed something for the rebuild on the motor cause i realized someone put 305 heads on my 350.

i honestly think with the race rites i should be able to put down 350hp/350 ft lbs absolutly no problem, if not better.

As far as the throttlebody i got it almost for free, i think in exchange for my stock top end when i swapped out for the new heads and a hsr intake.

im looking to make 375hp/400ft lbs to the wheels, thats the goal, if the heads and cam dont get me there ill do a small spray.

I wanted to stay away from a 195-200cc head because im pretty sure itll kill the bottom end i already dont have, iirc afr stopped making the 190 head because people kept putting them on their 350's, the 180's are better suited for a 350, and the 195's better for a 383 or bigger.

No point in running big cc heads if i dont have the velocity/torque to go with it, this is a daily driver, with limited drag strip, and probably a lot more auto-x/solo 1 time so torque is more important to me, i doubt i would go bigger then a 180cc head, ideally if i could afford it the IK180's would be a good fit but if not well i really need to hear more about people whove run the race rites with a similar cam to me.
