Problems / Help / Suggestions / Comments Let us know if you're having any problems with the site or board software. Post any ideas you might have for ThirdGen.Org here.
In order to post an image on TGO, you must first upload your image somewhere to make it accessible online. You can either use the TGO vBulletin Attachment feature to upload the picture into the vBulletin database* (please see below for notes on this), or you can find a host that allows you webspace to upload your images and files. Many ISPs give their customer certain amount of webspace to upload their images and files. You should check with your ISP plan and their documentation for more details.
If you wish to attach an image in a post by uploading to the TGO vBulletin database*:
When you create a thread or are posting a reply to an existing thread, simply click on the Manage Attachments button that is located under the text box where you normally type your message. See Figure 1 below:
Once you've clicked on the Manage Attachments button, you will see a new Manage Attachments window. Click on the Browse button to locate the file on your computer. When you have found it, click on the OK.
Click on the Upload button
Once you've uploaded your image, you should see the file listed under the "Current Attachments" heading. You can then close that 2nd browser window. The file names should appear under the "Attach Files" section. When you're finished with your message, click on the "Submit Reply" button. The image will be uploaded to the TGO vBulletin database, along with your regular message. See figure below:
If you already have your image hosted online:
Copy the URL of your image that you wish to post. For example, the URL for TGO's vBulletin logo in the upper left corner is http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/thirdgen/misc/tl.jpg. Simply locate your image online, and then right-click on the image and select the "Properties" option, if using Internet Explorer. The URL is listed under the "Address (URL)" section. Highlight the address shown, then right-click and select "copy". The URL will now be copied to your Window's clipboard for later use.
When you create a thread or are posting a reply to an existing thread, click on the image icon (see Figure below), which is located just above where you normally type your reply message. When the prompt appears, delete the existing text (http://) in the field, then right-click and and select the "Paste" option. The URL to your image should now be in that field.
Note: Make sure to only have 1 http:// in your URL.
Click on the "OK" button.
*Please note that uploading images to TGO's vBulletin database have some restrictions. First, Administrators and Moderators ask that you limit the Attachment feature to 3 attachments per thread. The Administrators and Moderators also ask that if you plan to be posting/displaying your image often on the TGO forums (such as a signature image), to instead find a host, rather than using the Attachment feature for every single time you wish to display the same feature. This will help keep the TGO attachment database from being larger than need be, which in turn will help overall server performance for everyone.
The Attachment feature is also currently limited to no greater than 1MB in size. The attachments must be in one of the following formats: jpg, gif, doc, pdf, png, txt and zip
Why is it, EVERY THING I try, to link to a pic already posted somewhere, TGO tells me "Invalid Address"? I hafta actually upload them!
No, there are not double "http"s in what I use.
The address is PERFECTLY valid, yet TGO tells me it isn't. WTF?!?!?!?
I keep having to resize a pic I've posted before, just so I can use it!

Is there anyway I can add the attachments in the post (like other vBulletin forums such as LS1Tech) instead of the little thumbnails at the end? I'm writing a review, and I need to add pictures and then text beneath it (they aren't large pictures, don't worry). With LS1Tech, I click the attachment, copy the address, and then pop it in a IMG tag in the body of the post.
Remote hosting displays them full sized, uploads are clickable thumnails, which opens the pic to full size.
Remote hosted...
Uploaded...

Right, I know that. But I want the images to be on TGO's servers permanently, as the review will be important to people (AJE Racing dropped spindles) and I don't want any remote hosting server to go down. I guess I can always have the clickable thumbnail in the post body.

It should not be a problem. When the time comes, if you need assistance, let me know.
The following image was snagged from a post where it was uploaded-attached to:
I try an address, SUPPLIED by TGO, yet it tells me "Invalid Address"
And I only asked this HOW MANY (4 months!) months ago? And yet, no help...I guess all the Admin are just ignoring me...WTF ever...

Huh? Look again.
I reviewed this thread where you brought up your issue. I asked you for an example, you provide one, and I shown you that it works. That's ignoring you?
Aside from an attitude (as shown above), you did not provide any further evidence of your "issue", nor any reply to my post about it.
What else can I do? I posted the address I used. Yat TGO tells me it is an Invalid Address. If it works as a link, it isn' invalid. Not much more I can do after that.

What else can I do? I posted the address, and it posted the address instead. Not much more I can do after that.
And what else can I do? It worked fine for me, as you can clearly see in two different responses, with no tricks or anything. I've done it, and seen it done, many times. There's nothing special to it. I have not gotten any reports from others with similar issues. Not much more I can do.
How about you provide a screen capture of what you're doing (before you submit the page), and then a screen capture of the error.
I'll just keep resizing my pics, and uploading them. I use right click, "Copy Link Location", then TGO tells me it is invalid.
I have Print Screen, but no see no Fn for Capture Screen.

Well, more information is needed. Simply right-clicking on the image to get the location (URL), does not result in an error. Pasting that (URL) in between
Code:
[img][/img]
tags doesn't either. It sounds to me like it is on your end.
Print screen normally would do the same thing. It would capture the output shown on your screen and places it in Windows' clipboard. From there you have to save the image as a file.
