Still having problems with thread subscriptions. Seems like this website randomly picks and chooses what threads to add to my subscription list. Some appear - many do not.
Obviously; this is a MAJOR PITA I have brought this up to the Webmaster in the past when it appeared that this sites E-Mail notifications were the reason I wasn't being notified when people responded to threads I have posted in. I made it clear at that time that the issue was not notification - but the systems failure to add threads to my subscription list.
Since I never got a response from the Webmaster or any of the Moderators and since it has been over a month with no one else reporting the bug publicly I have to ask: What's the problem ??

As you pointed out, no one else has publicly reported the issue with subscriptions randomly not being added. No one has reported the issue to us privately, either. Or to be specific, the few that were reported, were not actually an issue - see #3
1) What browser are you using?
2) Is there a common theme? Are you using the quick reply button when email notifications aren't supposedly being added to your Subscription list? Or are you using the full reply form?
3) Are you sure they are not being added to your subscription list? We've had a few members (some time ago) who initially thought that their threads weren't being added to the subscription list, but in fact they were. This was because if the thread/post is marked as new (such as being online when the new post is made - and you log out afterwords) the thread can disappear from the subscription list until you view the entire subscription list. This is because the system considers the thread/post "read", even if you did not read it, which is exactly how the rest of the system works (for all other threads/posts - you do not need to read them for the system to mark them as read).
2) No apparent common theme,..... I never use "quick" reply
3) I wrote a few posts on 06-02. They are not on my subscription list - not getting notifications ( obviously ) and these messages do not appear when I "search for all posts by John in RI". ( last post shown in that search was dated 5-31 )
Example thread : Written on 06-02-08, Not on Subscription list, Not on "all post by" list ( sorted by date - default setting )
At this stage, I can really say that we will need to monitor it for further details. To be blunt, the stock vB code cannot do what you describe (randomly interfere with thread subscriptions being added your subscription list). This is partly because it's one of the most basic form functions consisting of a check-box form. Of course there is the database side, but if there were any database issues, it would be very evident.
I did recently discover that a very few other websites had similar reports from members stating that thread subscriptions were randomly not working on the subscription list. In response, the vB developers said that it's simply either user error or possibly a plugin/hack. It's possible that we do have a plugin/hack that is conflicting and causing an intermittent issue. If the latter is the case, we would need to disable each and every plugin/hack we have installed and run the forum "disabled" for a period of time to see if the results are duplicated. That is not a trivial task given some plugins are quite important to the function of our forums. Right now, this is the only report we have received about this issue.
It might be good to know if you know if there is a common forum, subforum, that is doing this.
I got this thread in the same "parts wanted" classified forum ( also posted on 06-02 ) on my subscription list and have gotten E-Mail notifications for replies posted by others.
I find it hard to believe that this issue is specific to my account alone - it has persisted for months now ( I traced it back to the subscriptions about 6 weeks ago. ) and I suspect that many others are not aware of the issue simply because they are not anticipating replies to the majority of their posts.
There were 2 messages I posted on 06-02 in my previous examples. Niether one of those 2 threads is appearing in my "find all posts by" list. This is significant as they should appear as posts on 06-02........ AND I posted a response on 06-04 to one of them ( the response on 06-04 isn't on the list either.)
Additional information: On 06-04 I re-posted another topic to one of the above mentioned threads from 06-02 and stated that it is not appearing on my "find all posts by" list. HOWEVER, After posting to that thread on 06-04 it IS now appearing on my Subscription list with a last post date of 06-04.
If someone who is experiencing this issue wants to help, you can do the following. When posting a response, every time, note that the Thread Subscription Notification Type is correct (set for some notification). You have to note this each time you respond to any thread.
I say this because this issue could fail on different points. It could fail by not properly calling your Thread Subscription notification settings automatically that your account is used, or it could fail elsewhere.
This has been a problem for me as well for the last month. I have 10 posts in the last month and 3 have registered in my subscription folder. The Only way to find all my posts is to do a search based on my screen name and what date range I need. This is very frustrating. Should I just abandon my screen name and start a new one?

That probably is not going to resolve the issue. I still need some information from anyone who experiences this issue, as the above post of mine had requested: http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/po...048-post8.html

Where is this "Thread Subscription Notification" located so I may check it each and everytime?
If you are using the full-form method, it's under the "Thread Subscription" section, which is located under the "Additional Options" section, which is under the message area (the part you type in your response). Or are you using the Quick-Reply feature?
