Free stuff section

After upgrading my car, I'm left with a lot of good parts I don't want to throw away, but aren't worth anything on eBay (ex: intake manifold bolts, orb of power, stock shifter, etc). So, why not "freecycle" them to someone that wants them. A place to list parts you are giving away, buyer just pays shipping, and both people solve a problem.

Re: Free stuff section

I'd love to see a section devoted to ONLY free stuff.

If the Mods could keep it trimmed down (delete the "sold" stuff") that would keep it small & easy to look through. And get rid of now-useless search results. That would make it even better.

this sounds like a good idea.

maybe the ad deletes after 30 days, that way it stays small.

Re: Free stuff section

Sounds good to me as well! I all for cheap parts that are still good, and while I'd like to sell all my spare parts for $1000/part, I know that some things will NEVER command any kind of price worth asking for.

Well, we haven't banned anyone for a while so I suppose it might be about time.

In all seriousness, we will consider the option. But there is no need to "keep bumpin this" as that's not how things work.

Thanks.

Re: Free stuff section

This is easy for me since I don't moderate the potential new board (I would be happy to do so if no one else wants to, however). This is all IMHO.

I think completely free stuff could warrant its own board, cars included (there have been a few times cars have been up for free on the Cars For Sale board). I think the board would receive a good deal of traffic since it likely would be the very first board searched. I also agree that sold items could be deleted rather than marked sold since there is no money transaction there is not an excuse to keep the thread so that it can be used for Classified Ads Feedback Board as the current locked "sold" items are.

An option would be to have each post on the current parts for sale boards marked FREE in the title where they could be searched, but the problem is many, many people who list items for sale do not follow the rules already so there is likely to be free parts ads never marked correctly. It is because of that, that I would make the new board.

It would be important to have people make sure to let the moderator know when their items are gone, so the thread could be deleted as quickly as possible.

Again, just my thoughts on the issue.

Re: Free stuff section

I'd volunteer to mod it, but I have no experience doing such....

I'm not sure there would be tons of postings, so it probably wouldn't need to be broken down into sections like drivetrain, interior, and such. I'd guesstimate 10 - 20 active threads at any given time, covering all areas of thirdgens.

Thing is.... would it be exclusive to 3rd gens? What about free listings on parts with compatibility to ours? Like free 4th gen seats...? 2nd gen fender vents? Corvette valve covers, etc.

Re: Free stuff section

I like this idea. Free stuff is great. I have a bunch of AC stuff I took out and don't know what to do with. How would shipping costs be handled if no money is exchanged?

Item is free. Local pick up only or the "buyer" pays shipping. Just no jacking of shipping rates, on "free" item, like the people on eBay o.

".99 cent part, $35 shipping, for a 3lb, envelope-sized item"!

Not 3rd gen part exclisive, I'd think. But if it couldn't be applied to a 3rd gen.....Like LS1/T56....4th gen rear end....4th gen seats....center bolt valve covers....2nd gen fender vents.....I'd say no.

I'd say not a general free "garage sale", just a 3rd gen related Free Section.

I'll be willing to help out. I have over 5+ years of exp. If this area happens, just send me a pm, and we can talk.

I also think a free stuff area is a good idea.
