Re: >>> Computer freeze up <<<

Will need more information. Such as software versions you're running (I.E., Windows, etc.) and a list of 3rd party security software you're running.

In addition, is it a hard freeze where the computer completely stops and does not respond, despite given X amount of seconds? Or does it recover after X seconds? Or have you not tried that?

The fact you can come back here, and even post, and appear to be active, suggests it's intermittent and there may be more involved here.

What is the specifications of the hardware you're running?

There is literally numerous reasons for the behavior you describe. As you can see, by large, this is not a global issue. If everyone, or even a measurable % of users, had this issue, there would be a lot of complaints and a noticable decrease in forum activity if everyone's, or a measurable amount, computer crashed with this site.

My quick advise to you is make sure you're running the most updated software, with all patches, that your machine is cleans of any virus/spyware and that you're not running a computer with "fort knox" type security - which can be just as bad and create problems.

Re: >>> Computer freeze up <<<

Running Windows XP and Norton's security.... More than likely it is just a fluke and I have no problem dealing with it. >> Just more or less wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.<< Today my computer completly froze up twice(only at this site). No response at all after trying to X-out of the site, ect... ect... Have to turn off CPU and reboot. Like I previously posted the slight inconvience won't keep me away! Thank you for your time....

Re: >>> Computer freeze up <<<

The only advise I can provide, aside from the above about updates and make sure your PC is clean, and not loaded down with security software, is to disable services and try running through the steps to see if the problem still exists. This will isolate the issue, which I suspect may be Norton or something more core to Windows XP. Norton has a known history for being a resource hog, and for also taking away from the user being able to use the computer.

You might try downloading FireFox:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html

It's a free, secure, and growing alternative to Internet Explorer. The issue you have could be with I.E., and visiting our site may be enough to result in the issue that you have.

Re: >>> Computer freeze up <<<

similar problem here, pages load the top bar on the site but then it is taking 5-10 min for Google ads to load. it is always there ads, 1 out of 3 are not loading at all and are coming up in there box as connection interrupted and the page loads fine. I have not had this problem until lately and only on sites with google ads. google ads and firefox seem to be having problems. Just my opinion but the people that are trying to make money on your traffic should not be reducing it because they hire incompetent idiot programmers that release incomplete adware.

Re: >>> Computer freeze up <<<

I have been on this site since Christmas 1998.

I had the habit of checking this site at least twice a day, every day until a couple years back when it became more of a headache than what was necessary.

When the site was sold by Dirk, it went to a for-profit group. Then I believe it was sold at least one more time.

The problems, for me, began with the google ads that were placed on the pages on this site. My computer began to take, at first 20 seconds, then 30-45 seconds to load each page.

Very frustrating when I was trying to view 30 or 40 pages per visit and the load time was longer than view time.

I have IE Windows XP and NORTON. Have had since 1998.

The problems began with the google ads.

I am glad most do not have my problems but I have a strong suspicion those blankity-blank google ads have cost a ton of potential revenue for the owners due to folks not wanting to sit at their computer waiting for a page to load and seeing it was hung with a google ad.

I sold my GTA in April 2008 but kept checking in daily until a couple months back when the ridiculous page download times turned me off from my favorite site.

Just tried again today after downloading the latest NORTON protection two days ago.

Takes even longer now.

I realize the NORTON software is fighting the google ads trying to load a bunch of cookies. (Google will dump a bunch of cookies as I have turned off my protection to see what was the problem)

It really is disheartening because one of the largest virus-protection systems (NORTON) cannot get along with the largest ad/cookie downloader system (google).

In the end, I don't want the cookies more than I don't want my other protection.

THIS IS THE ONLY SITE THAT DOES THIS TO MY COMPUTER.

JT, you are a good fellow. I am not fussing at you. I have complained in the past. Just kept getting worse.

I wish it wasn't this way.

Just my 2 cents worth.
