1/4 mile racing at Sealy!

I was just checking out the web site for the Sealy track. It is now called "Lonestar Motorsports Park". They plan to extend the strip this summer and offer 1/4 mile racing starting in July. Yayyy!! They will still have 1/8 mile events, I guess on certain nights. They are open this Friday from 6pm to 11pm for T&T. Im going to try and go and borrow my old drag radials from Craig. I want to compare these big tires I have now, like 27 3/4" diamter, to the old ones which were about 25 3/4". I changed the tires and gears to 4.73 at the same time and notices an improvement, but i think by gaining a little more gear by a smaller tire I will gain even more.

Thats really cool that they will have 1/4 mile racing. Its such a nice area, out in the country with huge grassy pit areas. We gotta have the fall brawl there.

damn Larry, 4.73's?! and I just thought my 4.11's were a low gear

As far as Sealy getting 1/4 mile, thats cool, hope it does as well as HRP. I won't be going out there, HRP is closer for me.

Well, if Larry has 4.73's--then I have 5.10's

Oops. Lost control of my fingers. Obviously its 3.73. I wont be going to HRP and you wont be going to SEaly. I guess we'll never know who would win. ILl be running high 12s shortly. Too bad we couldnt compromise. Ive been to HRP a number of times. If SEaly is 1/4 mile, why wouldnt you come there sometimes. Seems a bit narrow to say youd never come there. Hey, whateverj

Yeah it came out harsher sounding than what I meant. Should have said if we have a meet there or something I'll go, but I won't be going on my own.

Yeah, ditto for me. I guess I meant the same thing. If Im going to race on my own, obviously I would go to Sealy. I would go to meets at HRP though. Hope to see you soon at a meet.

No seriously, nothing I havent discussed. If your cutout gave you 11HP, then Im expecting a similar result when I have mine intalled. Ive got cats now and you dont (even with the cutout plugged) , but probably have a less restrictive muffler, since I have the Borla system with most of the exaust bypassing the muffler. I forget what muffler you have.

I plan on doing tuning on the dyno for my rich A/F situation. Owen estimates this to easily give 20hp more.

Also Im going back to a slightly smaller rear tire, which will give me a little more gear.

Im assuming (Hoping) all this will get me from 13.3 to 12.9.

What are YOU planning on doing to keep up

Larry,

I'm not sure what U have planned will get U into the 12's. I doubt it!

First, U have to remember, that hose 13.3's (if I remember right) were done in cooler weather. Now that the hot summer is here, your times will go back up --probably to 13.5's (as will mine) TPI's are very sensitive to weather conditions!

Retuning, cutout, and smaller tires will help, but I don't see them taking off more than .2 off your times and U will be lucky if it does that!

U will probably have to do some good aluminum heads before U get into consistant 12's (and a cam and a chip retune for the new heads and a cam)

U might be thinking about going to 1.6 roller rockers, but from what I understand about the heads that we both have, that doing that will actually slow us down. They will push more air/fuel into the heads and that actually creates turbulance and U end up with less air/fuel in the combustion chamber.

I've been saying I'll go to the past 3 meets and everytime, something comes up at the last minute either with the car or plans change and I can't go. I'm finally getting everything on my car lined out where I can drive it more, so I hope to make it to more meets too.

I can sympathize. In my case, though, it's usually the tranny. That'll be fixed this weekend!!!! Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!! On the way to DynoDay, I backed the car out of the driveway, and it died in the street. After some quick investigation( no fuel pressure), Discovered I was out of gas!!! (New fuel guage. Top of the red is now empty) It's always something.............
