Got home from work today and wanted take the camaro for a drive, and cranked it over took a little longer this time to start it started than sounded like it was flodding out and well.... Poof a fire from air intake on the hood. Looks like only an air cleaner, maybe just eht cap, rotor, and spark plug wires for sure.

Something I didn't know but maybe it will help someone. I was told if the carb catches on fire to try and suck the flame into the motor and not stop cranking. Luckily I only had fires when the air cleaner was off. At least it didn't all go up in flames.

Yeah, I don't know what the hell happened, it ran good, no backfire or nothing, and than just as I looked up I saw flames coming out, I'll post some pics later on this evening, when I really check for damages.

The really ****ed up part is that all my neighbors were just standing around(live in an apartment complex). They were just "Look a fire" while I was running back and forth with a bucket, until I finally Yelled, "ANYBODY HAVE A ****ING WATERHOSE!!", A little kid gave the hose, and everyone went back inside.

on a side note, i have a fire extinguisher mounted on the bump between the rear seats...you may want to consider that. (i have a friend who had 3 engine fires, in his '67 mustang.....kinda made me paranoid lol)

Glad you caught it!

I never go anywhere without a fire extinguisher.
Granted, they're not free but I'd rather pay $10 now than $5000 later. Y'all know that insurance companies don't exactly give a shhh.

had that happen to me once but only a small flame. Floored it and the flame went out. similar concept to oil in the engine igniting. Floor it and it goes out. But a big flame plus flooring it = ka boom!

Sorry about that. Hope there is minimal damage.

Yeah especially if you have a mechanical feul pump. Turns out it was a rotted fuel hose.
melted the hvac case, a couple of wires, one conector to the distrubor is good other needs repair. I can't believe the freaking hole the hvac case though wiring's no problem but hell hvac cases are hard to come across.
