Re Storing my 88 IROC 350 TPI & have some questions
This is my first 3rd Gen I have ever owned. I bought this car as a Roller for $1000 bucks with the Engine & Trans already out of the car & the motor had to be rebuilt. Now the catch! The guy I bought it from wanted to put in a ZZ4 Crater Motor & carb the car. So he took out the whole Harness from under the hood.
Now I have one pic of the car that I will post. But this car had been garaged its whole life & the body & Interior are in MINT Condition. What this guy was thinking is beyond me on making this car in to a carb car. He was the 2nd owner of the car & he bought it from the owner of a Cheverolet Dealership & he gave the car to his son who drove it through highschool & then he went to college & they gave him a newer camaro. The car went to the back of the shop there at the dealership & sat for 8 yrs & till the guy I bought it from talked the guy in to selling it. He has owned it for 6 yrs & babied it & drove it on the weekends & then put it in the garage. Well the motor blew & he thought of the ZZ4 idea & started & then thought better of it & needed money fast & then I got it. I then of course put the car in storage in my garage & it sat for the 3yrs & now I want to restore it.
The car is a 88 IROC 350 TPI with a 700R4 Transmisson. Still have the window sticker & all the maintance recrods fron back in 89 & there on thru till present.
My first problem with the car is the Engine Wiring Harness. I have the car in Houston at Pavalock Performance. He mainly does LS1 cars & LT1 cars. But is good at most everything F-Body wise. We bought a engine harness & its not working so well. I don't know if the 305 & 350s use the same harness & will a 87 or 89 harness work on a 88. So how can I fix this & where can I get a stock Harness.
My next problem is Exhaust. I got the car with no exhaust. Just the manifolds. Which all the emissons crap is there. THANK GOD, Cause im sure stock manifolds are expensive. Does anyone make stock exhaust for these cars?
Next question. Where can I buy new carper & I want to redo teh headliner. Its saging a little bit also.
Thanks Guys. I will keep this thread alive with my progess on my restoration on THE 88 IROC! My goal is to have this car look Brand New the same way it did back in 88. I want to make this in to a show car.
I already have a 2000 Formula LS1 & a 95 LT1 that are both Cammed & quick. The LS1 run 7.20s on motor on 17s N/A & my Lt1 runs 7.80s on motor & 7.50s on spray. So Im ready to do the carshows & bring a clean 3rd Gen to show.
Re: Re Storing my 88 IROC 350 TPI & have some questions
I believe the 87 still have the ac on the passenger side and the alt. is the only thing that runs on a serpentine belt. in 89' gm put the alt on the driver side and the ac on the passenger side and all accessories were run on serpentine belt. dont know if you need to know all of that but just in case. IN 89' GM removed the ninth injector in 86'-88' there were eight injectors and a cold start injector so in order to keep it all "original" you would need an 88' wiring harness. You can get carpet and exhaust from classic industries or maybe from year one too. Your best bet for the wiring harness is ebay or the classified section here. Hope some of this answered some of your questions.

1aauto is great for carpet. Your best bet for a headliner is your local upholster shop (got my headliner, speaker covers, and visors done for $125 a few years back). There were quite a few variations in the years with TPI, so your best bet is to ask a question for which years will have the parts you can direct swap. If you're looking for stock-type exhaust, I believe catco made a kit that was a direct replacement for the dual-cat cars (y-pipe to past the cats) if that's what you're missing. Welcome to the boards!
