Teaser pic of my new custom one-off wheels....

rears are 17x10, but measure 17x11 overall (from outer edge to outer edge)...

Pretty FAT!!

Going to put 315/35/17 nitto drags on the back, front wheels are 17x8's so they'll get 255/45/17 nitto streets on the front.

Once I modify the rear inner fenders and get some tires, I'll make a post under the appearance and detailing board.

Re: Teaser pic of my new custom one-off wheels....

The wheel bolts on fine and clears everything due to the backspacing I spec'd when the wheels were built.

However, when the tires get mounted, the tires are going to rub on several places on the inner fender-well. I'm going to make clearance with a "BFH" as well as removing the bump stop on both sides. If I still need more clearance, I may have to do minor surgery with an air-saw and a tig welder.

"One off" as in totally custom billet centers, or just off-the-shelf wheels that have been widened?

How did you deal with the e-brake cable, on the drivers side rear caliper?

One-off as in completely custom centers etc.., I have the only set of these wheels in existence....

The wheel clears everything including the e-brake cable. It's the tires that I'll have to make room for.

Oasis build them for you? Dare I ask....How much $ do they (or whoever) charge, for 1-off wheels?

What I want doesn't exist, so I've thought about doing that too.

Re: Teaser pic of my new custom one-off wheels....

Tires should arrive in middle of this coming week. This coming weekend, I'll be working with the inner fender-well issues. So, hopefully this weekend I'll have some pics of them on car. But I need to finish the car and send pics to the manufacturer that way they can get pics of the wheel and the car with wheels installed up on their website. Then I'll make a big post under the appearance and detailing board.

I wouldn't drive super lites (or drag stars) on the street.

I've done it before and they don't hold up. They warp, they crack, they fall to pieces. You don't even have to hit anything. The lateral stresses imposed by good street tires will tear them apart.

Yea, but what I'm doing is more for looks than drag racing...

I was just thinking about the cost of widening your stock wheels vs. the cost of some light weight drag wheels. It may be cheaper to get the drag-lites in your case and you could lower your ET slightly with a light weight set of drag wheels.

But yea, it would be cool to have a set of stockers widened and all polished up, then maybe get a brand new set of center caps... I think that would look cool too! Be careful of your overall backspacing, otherwise you'll have to mini-tub the car. I know I'm going to have my hands full with what I'm working with!

Quote:

I don't plan on it, but if something happens, I could have one refinished pretty easily. They are polished aluminum, not chrome.

2 piece billet - billet center welded into a soft-lip forging (hoop)

They feel about the same, if not a tad lighter than a factory wheel.

Well, it is 430$. I cannot find anything for a full set for that price of any kind of decent wheel.

17" deep? 315s? I hope the 17" was either a joke or a typo. 12" is the right size for 315s.

Re: Teaser pic of my new custom one-off wheels....

In the joke earlier, 17" was not in reference to width....

If you were familiar with the dayton gold-spoke wheels, you would know that they usually came in the size 13"x6", hence the joke about blowing them upto the 17x10's....

315's were made for 10 inch to 12 inch wide wheels depending on the tire MFG...

sorry for missing the comma's.

Believe me, I understand.

I've been building mine for almost 11 years, and it's still not close to being "done"...

You've definitely got me salivating, looks wicked so far!!

BTW Mike, I got your number from Chris and I've been meaning to call you about the Flowmaster, just been intensely busy lately. I'd like to pick that up from you if you've still got it, maybe at the meet?

Lol !

I wish I could! I've been wanting to post pictures of these since the day I got them. But, I will be waiting to post the pictures until the pics are up on the manufactures website.

Trust me, I think it's worth the wait.

Not having anyone make them, they are already made, I have them in my possession.

Details will all be explained when I make the new post under the "appearance and detailing" board.

I'll post a link to the new post here in this thread.

Re: Teaser pic of my new custom one-off wheels....

This Saturday or Sunday I'll be doing all the inner-fender surgery (cutting out the bump stops in addition to some sledge hammer work), that way the 315's wont rub anywhere.

Also, the 255's in the front are just a hair taller than the 315's. That's going to to be fixed Saturday. I'm swapping them for 245's which should match the 315's sidewall height.

So it's possible that I'll be posting pics as early as this Sunday, but most likely it will be early next week.

Re: Teaser pic of my new custom one-off wheels....

What backspacing are you dealing with? The pics make the wheels look like a 7" dish & only 3" backspacing, which would fit with zero issues. I'm dealing with 7" of backspacing, plus the sidewall bulge!

The dish isn't as big as you think, it's between 3 - 4 inches and that wheel's backspacing is 6.25 inches.

You're going to have a rough time with 7" .........

Its actually not that bad. Little cutting, little welding. Shop quoted me $500 to do both sides. No thanks. I can do it myself, just wanted to see if it could be done cheap enough.

Re: Teaser pic of my new custom one-off wheels....

The bump stops are going to need to be cut-off and that ribbed area that they bolt to needs to be cut out. That area is double-walled, so you can cut it out with a cut-off wheel and weld in a flat piece of steel in it's place. The area close to the control arm shouldn't require any cutting, just some persuasion from the "BFH"....

Re: Teaser pic of my new custom one-off wheels....

Swapping the front tires in the morning and will be busy in the afternoon, so I wont get a chance to work on the car until Sunday...

Forgot to add:
the front wheels (17x8's) have 4.5 inch backspacing

the rear wheels (17x11's) have 6.25 inch backspacing as stated earlier...

Also, the front wheels are deep dished as well, but about a 1/2 inch less than the rear wheels. Valve stems are hidden in the backside of the wheels.

You say the makers are gonna post them up on their site, then you can post your pics, but they apparently haven't. So I ask....Do they even care?

You gonna tell those who have asked WHO built your wheels?

Or you gonna drag this joke out, then post your Weld Drag Lites?
