So I just moved from Kansas, we don't have any emissions checks for our cars up there. Now I am in Dallas. My car does not have any AIR equipment, it has a Stealth Ram(no egr), and has no Cat. What should I do? leave it licensed in Kansas? Can I just put a good cat on and pass the test. What do you guys do down here? Theres no way I'm putting the stock intake back on.

Are you in Dallas county, if so its tuff here. You will need to have at least a cat and it depends on the place but you are suppose to have all the factory stuff on it. If you let me know where your at I can give you a couple of places. To tell you truth I would licensed in Kansas as long as could
I am fine with spending some money to put a cat/cats on...maybe a new true dual setup...but will this be enough?. Aparently anything older than 24 years can be exempt, that means another 4 years. I guess I can leave it licensed in Kansas and drive it down here, but I would rather not. Any experience with this guys?

Hello,
If you live in Dallas now, check out: www.nttga.net its a local thirdgen club
North Texas Thirdgen Association
I am not really sure what to tell you on your sticker. Talk to Vern he has a 383 mini ramed firebird, that passes the emission test here in dallas.
And welcome to Dallas, by the Way!

The 24 yr mark only means you don't have to get tested. It doesn't mean the stuff can be gone. It still has to be there for visial purposes of the inspection....Nobody said it has to WORK though!
Tue dual won't pass legally before or after the 24yr mark, unless it is a dual cat car. After the cat/cats, your free to do whatever you want. Before the cat is where they get picky.
Move slightly out of town, into the right county, and you won't hafta mess with emissions testing. Only a handful of counties in Texas are emissions counties. I'm only 12 miles outside of one.
Where in Euless?
My apt. is in Bedford (work in Arl., home to LC/Houston every
other week-end. Maybe we can hook-up for the Sep. NTTGA meet?
You may have to listen to some blather ,
but if anyone local can help out, Vern will be the guy.

I just got back from KC, where I spent 6 straight days workin on her. I have a lot of the original emmissions stuff, smog pump etc. The main problem is that I dont have an EGR provission on the stealth ram. Im looking for a house in Euless, so the emissions thing is something I am going to have to deal with. Along with no horn, third brake light, ebrake etc. I could probably tune the car so it would pass the sniffer, I just need to find a shop that will "neglect" the visual test, as far as the EGR.

If you were once from Lawrence, we should have hooked up. I would've enjoyed another thirdgenner in town. Anyone here that I should know about?

Nice car, Lawrence used to have a decent street scene I used to meet up at Oreillys on 23rd with some of the locals. There was a guy with a quick Buick, I think he owns a speed shop and he has a brother with a turbo thirdgen (my brother knows him). My brothers got a 69 camaro thats pretty quick, its more of a show car, but its ls1 powered. Theres a fouthgen Fury who used to be decent. Thats all I can remember specifically. Heartland park is awesome on tune night 10 dollars and you get in as many runs as you want, when nobody is there (which is very often)

Once you hit 24 years, you don't need any emissions - just get it registered as a classic car. No inspection requirement and you only have to register every 5 years. That's what I did -no EGR, No A.I.R. crap, but I did keep the CCP and cat.

That only means you no longer have to be tested, it does not mean you can legally rip everything off.
Take it all off, and you should still fail visually. If they are passing you with stuff gone, you are just getting lucky & they are not inspecting your car corectly, according to what they are supposed to be doing.
I think he is talking about antique registration. I have antique registration on my camaro and there is no inspection needed.

OK I think I have it figured out. Apparently there is a low mileage waiver if you drive less than 5000 miles a year. Anybody have experience with this?? Plan is to bring her down this next weekend. I cant wait!!!!
