so you're talking about a BYO-everything? that's fine with me... I think everybody "grillin'what ya bring" is cool.
IF you can get a couple sponsors on board, you could get enough money to provide some, if not all, of the food. It just depends on what local connections you have with businesses that want to spread the message to third gen'ers.
Since its a while away, lets leave Duke's the spot because it is already set up. I can start working behind the scenes for the park sponsorship. If I have sponsors to cover the park fees 3mos prior to the meet date decided, park it is. How does that sound?
Looks like a great spot. I would be down for that. Would be great to figure out some activities as well.

So here's the plan of action that I came up with.
1) Decide on date, depending on whats available.
2) Find sponsor for park fees.
3) Call and reserve park shelter for date decided upon.
4) Try to find sponsor for food. (Maybe sponsor for food/ shelter).
5) Further planning between local clubs/orgs for attendance and road trip.
Any other suggestions? Should we start a new thread?
I would say for a planning thread, you might as well start one on ATGO. I'll subscribe there to see what's up, but like I said that day, if you all want to take this football and run with it, it's yours
your ideas are good, as much as we talk about rain in april or may, chances are it WON'T rain. I would say early-ish May would be the best month for reasonable weather vs. chance of rain.
I'll go ahead and open a thread in ATGO. I'll also start doing research on weather for early spring, maybe a history on which days have had rain in the past 5yrs. Worst case, it rains, but we have shelter .

BTW, 1fas92, thats one bad *** car!
Do you have a link to the ATGO thread?
And were you at Dukes on June 26th?
And thanks for the compliments on my car! I want to do more stuff to it.........

I haven't posted a thread yet. I'm putting together a list of potential sponsors. When I do, I will post it here. At Duke's, I was 4th from last on the side you were parked on. I was in my Formy and my wife was in the Camaro(2nd from last).
I'm gonna run this through my local club to drum up some ideas & help, then I'll start the official TGO thread for it.
In the meantime, if anybody has any ideas, feel free to email them to me at SDC78605@Austin.rr.com
Anything you want done differently? Things you wanna see/Don't wanna see? Time? Location? General hang-out/Awards? I'd say Drag or Autocross run, but that means rental of a facility & there is no drag race place in Austin, just Autocross. I'm all for Autocross, but I think the majority is into drag racing, despite the fact that our cars handle SO VERY WELL!
Im up for anything, if we do a drag, I'll just sit back and watch.. LOL
Hopefully we increase the numbers from last year, but as I'm finding with the DFW gathering... the first meeting was exciting and well attended, but after that people get it out of their systems and don't seem that energetic anymore.
If you are talking about just 9 or so months between state wide meetings (for a spring meeting) then people may not be hungry enough. Fall perhaps?

I liked having it at dukes last year, it had just about everything we needed (parking, food and drinks, and bathrooms) but here's some things that we didn't do last year that I would like to see incorporated into this years event
A web site for information... with that, we can get the event onto car show listings.
That being said, we should have some kind of car show, with the judges coming from all the local third gen associations
I would like to see a cruise or some sort of group activity
group photo! also individual shots for each participant in front of some scenic backdrop would be a great way to encourage more to come
I can do the website we can decide if this is a south central event, or we want to keep it as a Texas themed event. There's advantages both ways.
Come on everybody.... post away! Give us ideas of what you would like to see and do there. There's no reason we can't get this up to the level of the third gen fest in IL. We had 33 cars our first year, let's shoot for 50 or more this year.

Great idea. Create a site with last years events pics? I tried to gather all the pics listed in the first thread, so I *think* I have all of them from everybody already, so you wouldn't have to gather them all yourself.

An equal # of Judges from each area (NTTGTA/DFW/ATGO/SA3GO/HGO...), but what about $ for trophies/awards? We would have to define the classes & how to judge each rule for each class.

Not hard to come up with, except finding something real good in that area.

I just sent a message to a good automotive interested photographer.

Incorporate past event pics to, as mentioned above.

.....there's a thread on ATGO with all the best pics, we can go get them when the time is right.....
I've already got all those plus the ones on posted on the TGO by NTTGA, SA3GO and HFB, all in 1 location. Would save you time going through posts getting them.
i sent a much longer email to stephen but here's my general opinion:
Have the restaurant(s) in a very visible location as the "spot", dukes was good, but a place on the service road that can been seen from the highway easily or a shopping center/strip, would draw in random people driving by, much more than a secluded place. Think about the more successful meets (cars&coffee, Tx2k, Niftee50ees, etc...) they are in very populated high traffic areas, we should try to replicate a similar location IMO.
Then have a driving event (cruise, drag, auto-x) in the morning/mid-day and have the "meet" in the afternoon/evening so its cooling off, getting to sunset/dark towards the end, everyone can enjoy dinner and talk about the day's event(s). I also feel like the later meet would draw in more people who want to swing by on the way to dinner or just hangout in the evening with some car guys.
Photo shoots, judging and awards also all sound great to me, there are a hundred ways to do all of this we just have to decide what we WANT first, then figure how to do it!
I'm going to vote for not the first two weeks of may because thats finals for most colleges and i don't want to miss this!
Not exactly...That was started to judge whether to make it a South Central Gathering or more Texas only like last year.
Of course, anybody from anywhere is more than welcome to come. The difference is...How much do we promote to different areas? What more would we need to do, to attract people from further away & make such a long drive?
So that isn't "the" gathering thread. I'll post a link here where I start that one.
That is EXACTLY the kind of input we need. Obviously we do not want to schedule it during Finals time frame for any schools.
What dates for what schools are a no-go?
well high school are going to be the end of may but, thats a small % of thirdgen owners so i dont think that should be of much/any concern.
last day of finals for a few major public universities:
aTm = may 16th
UT = may 17th
Tech = May 10th
U of H = May 12th
we should be fine for the 3rd of 4th weekend in may, if we do it the first two weekends 3rd round tests and finals preparation will prevent any students from attending
I'm at aTm if anyone was wondering

OK.....Very end of May if not first week of June looks to be best. More worried about college finals than high schools, but that is only because there will be a higher percentage of people.

Hey fellow Texans! I agree with the location last year, if we expect a lowish turnout like last year. I will say I think we should forget the same time of year if I have any say so in the matter. Do you guys remember how smoking hot it was? Fall time works and it may help turn out the numbers on both accounts. I had a good time last year, and this year should be even better. I also think someones house who has good parking would be the hot ticket like they do up there in IL. We can take donations or make it BYOB/F/D etc. Just have someone handy working a huge grill or maybe a coupe of them for that matter. No worries on the expensive tab, and we can actually be - a little more at ease should I say?
But private land would also put us on dirt, limit air conditioning & bathrooms for so many people, require people to stand & cook rather than enjoy. Silverware, plates, glasses which means trash or washing. Then the cost of all that.
Now....Duke's will cater, so food could be covered, but still limited AC (which could be needed less by time of year) & bathrooms.

Actually it would put us in the grass, house has bathrooms, even 1 in the huge shop out back, which provides shade as* well. Chairs fix the standing issue, paper plates and cups.
What Im talking about is comfortable and enjoyable...
Dont get me wrong, dukes is fine... It does save on the work load which is a plus. If we do stay there, lets try at least to bring a tent of some sort. I have a 10x10 which goes to the boat races I can grab...but then theres moving it.
Edit just re read your post. Honestly, I just want out of the heat. PLanning it in a better month makes sense. Do you remember it was so hot, that we had to take breaks from the show last year? Clothes were soaked... pretty miserable with not enough shade... How can we get some shade out there?
Actually it would put us in the grass, house has bathrooms, even 1 in the huge shop out back, which provides shade *** well. Chairs fix the standing issue, paper plates and cups. This is not my first rodeo...did you think I meant a bare strip of land??? This aint no high school tail deal, im too old for that crap. What Im talking about is comfortable and enjoyable...
Take it down a notch, will ya? I aimed nothing directly at you personally, so don't get bent.
Dirt/grass...Whatever.
You mention 1 bathroom & a "huge shop out back"...You volunteering something? Paper plates & cups...Fine. But I did mention trash if not washing. How about a big enough trash can for 30-50 peoples worth of plates, cups, silverware, napkins? Who is going to supply all this?
Duke's would take care of pretty much all of that, but then that requires pre-paying them to do so & collecting the $ from people coming.
If you are going to suggest something here, be clear. Provide details & examples.
Im didnt mean for it to sound rude. Im sort of preoccupied working, so I wrote that in a rush and didnt reread it til just now. I apologize if it sounded off... I am all for a good debate on this, its the 1 and only even that pertains to the car I love most, so naturally I want the event to be well thought out.

so you're talking about letting us use your own land? that's a very tempting offer, and we should look into it.
The land belongs to a family friend which throws parties for other boat racers so this type of deal not unheard of. Plus I think it would be cool for them as they are into this type of thing as well. The shop is big, all though there will be some drag boats in there... top fuel and pro mods. I am sure they would not mind pending we clean up the area. The only problem is I gotta know for sure how many are going to attend which poses a problem. You say about 50? How many were there last year?

I'm all for location suggestions & such. If we are gonna do this in May, I don't wanna stretch out the initial planning any longer than we need to.

33 for last year, the very first year. With less heat & people having come already, we are hoping to break 50 (at least) this year. Where is this land?

Its in north austin, almost georgetown. Call it pflugerville. Whats the exact date we are thinking. The only thing I can see holding this area back is its going to be racing season, very possible on a racing weekend. I may even not be in town. I will have an answer tonight either way.

May 21st or end of May, MAYBE 1st weekend of June (not likely, but who knows?).
Pflugerville works, not much further. PM the address if you can & I'll check it out on Mapquest.
For everybody that either went to last year's gathering or expressed an interest in it...
the new website is up and running for this year's gathering. we're calling it the "third gen roundup" so it has a texas flavor, but doesn't alienate people that may want to come from outside the state.
here's the website, enjoy, and share it with your friends, especially those that aren't on TGO
