Hey guys I just registered to the site and I'm in Palm Coast (30 min north of Daytona Beach. I'm getting my first third gen in a few weeks and am working on gettin' ready to restore her. Shes an 87 IROC with a 305 (currently). Going BB with this cammy. I'm thinking 427 or 454 not 100% sure yet I want the 454 but it requires more mods than the 427. I did alot of research on the project and I know I can do it. Anyways it seems like we have a good group of FL third gen owners.
Welcome to thirdgen! It's good to hear of another car being restored in stead of junked. I hope everything goes well with your new project. Keep us posted man.
BTW, is there anything wrong with the 305? What are you doing with it?

you got to have a certain amount of tenacity to work on theses cars. nothing is ever easy, there isnt a great deal of "bolt on" parts like some newer vehicles.
from my personal experience... id say run the snot out of the 305 while you build the car to handle any engine you put in.
or it could be sitting in your driveway more than driving on the steet.....(ask me how i know..lol)
Anyway..good luck, maybe we'll meet up if i can ever get mine done

well.... In aug 08 i blew a head gasket, which lead to a cam change , which led to acarb change, which led to, a better set of heads, ..... exhaust hoodbigger shot of nitrous
i think at some points there were more parts in the garage than on the car.
heres where i started(pic of wifes stock 305) and where im at now.
hopefully ill be down your way for that cruise and drag you got goin down at bradenton.

I'm from Tampa! Just bought an '88 IROC-Z, maroon in color, tan interior, with T-Tops. Has a 350 swapped in place of the original 305 through a messed up 700R4. In the market for a new/rebuilt transmission so I can finally drive this thing!
At my parents' place, up on jackstands until I can locate a transmission.
Tomorrow there is a car show in NSB that starts at 4pm.
"The 2nd Saturday of every month Downtown Canal Street is host to a great Classic Car Show usually from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. The city closes off the street to all vehicle traffic with the exception of the Classic Cars themselves. This is an awesome event for the whole family to enjoy, there is food, a D.J. and most of the merchants are open for business during the event."
Sounds fun and if anyone wants to meet around 3:30pm and roll up in a thirdgen caravan let me know!
I have a cherry 92 RS T5 and wanted to just get in touch with those by me...I'm from Ft. Lauderdale but I am stationed in the army and stuck out of state until i can get out hopefully in several months. I plan on going to tower shops once I get back home and get her painted. I can just leave the hood down until i do what needs done lol.
Just wanted to touch base with Palm / Broward / Dade brethren. Much to do I can't wait to get my discharge so I can make hot sweaty dirty nasty wrench love to her. She will be on top of course.
Does anyone know of a good exhaust shop in Central Florida that can do 3" duals on these cars? I know it is tough to get 3" duals over the axle so I will probably have them dump just before the axle. Also does anyone know where the closest shop is that can do mandrel bends on 3" tubing?

check the guy on 192 next to poffenbaugh ford. I beleive his name is andy. Im putting a 4inch single mufflex system on mine this weekend if youd like to check it out. im right off missouri
St. Cloud here, 86 IROC, 383ci, new interior and most of the car in my garage and the body is at the body shop getting some cyber grey, ghosted silver IROC insignia and (tacky...so my wife says) ghosted flames..lol
Andy does not have a mandrel bender. Don's does not. Road Runner in Kissimmee gave me some shops number in Orlando, but it didn't pan out. I checked all over for someone and got tired of it and ordered a bunch of bends and straight pieces and made my own. I have built plenty of headers for the race car so it wasn't too bad. Couldn't get the dual 3" over the rear so I brought them out in front of the tires.
loneroad, I'd like to check that ride out sometime........

I think I saw this IROC on autotrader proably around summer of 2009...did you happen to snag this car in the oldsmar/palm harbor area???
If the weather holds out, mine will be mobile again this weekend. My first ride in it since 8-3-08
I wanna find a shop thats willing to do piece work, until i can get the car 100% ready to shoot. (fitting my new hood, doorpins, alignining body apanels, and such) Plus keeping my wifes vert looking decent til i can get hers re-shot.
Hey everyone. I'm in Orlando and my brother is too. He's not on this site but he has an 85 TA that has been completely rebuilt.
Nice car. maybe you should have your brother on here to talk about HIS car.

I also hear Andy does good work, but I know he does not have a mandrel bender.
Would like to join the get together but car is not even painted yet.
Living in Niceville but the car stays at my parents house in Crestview. Owned the car since Aug. of 2007, it's a 1989 Iroc-z with a 5.3/T56 swap. Still got a lot of work til I start tearin up the streets.
It has to be the same one...nice though i think ive seen you around
It's alright. The guy really beat the hell out of it from whoever he bought it from.. It was originally a 305 car, but he had someone (his 'mechanic') put in a 350, and apparently it's a van motor.. and he left the 305 heads on it, which I'm not too fond of.
Seen me around? Driving it? I drove it for about a week or two around New Tampa, but now it's parked at my parents' place until I have the time to finish it.

oh maybe not then...lol i was thinking around westshore area
Oh no, I completely agree.. a 350 is a 350. My point about the heads is that I'm not fond of high-compression motors, and I can't imagine that the motor breathes very well when I get on it. Not to mention the TPI runs out of breath at around 5500 anyway..
well the van motor has dished pistons, thereby lowering the compression. I bet they used 305 heads to help bump it back up closer to the 9.5:1 that was stock in the 305s/350s that came in the car
and depending if they are TPI or TBI heads would make a difference too. TPI heads flow better....
A small group of Camaro/Firebird owners are getting together at Quaker Steak & Lube, in St Pete. Meet there at 5pm we may stay or cruise to another location close by. The Burger King at 110th and US19 http://www.mapquest.com/maps?address...=FL&country=us
I'm in Miami, Kendall area. I've been asking for a meet for a while and haven't found anyone yet. I have only seen a few thirdgens on the street here, most in need of repair. Me and a few of my friends get together most saturdays and work on cars or go to shows. This weekend I am putting a new fuel pump in my ride and going to the Krusin Krome show on Sunday. You are welcome to stop by my place if you want. Maybe we can start a meet. I will warn you that one of my friends has a crapstang. PM me if you are interested and I will give you a location.
