I'm in the Chattanooga area for the year, and I'm going crazy trying to find a firebird parts car at a junkyard, as it doesn't seem anyone has them here. I need a hatch lock cylinder and mounting bracket for an '82-'85 (might be on '86s as well?) Trans Am. Mine was broken into and busted, and for the life of me I can't find any. Are there any junkyards within a couple hours drive that have a few '82'-85 (possibly '86) firebird parts cars?
Thanks.
Edit: Just got off the phone with Hawks, and they are able to get them new. When I had called a month or so ago, they weren't sure if they could get the correct ones. But they're on their way.
B A's junkyard in Soddy Daisy has one 1986 trans am in it. Also on Flat top top mountain in Soddy Daisy there is two junk yards. one called potts has a couple of 3rd gen firebirds and a ton of 4th gen firebirds and the other junkyard has several 3rd gen firebirds and trans ams. soddy daisy is about 25 miles north of Chattanooga on highway 27
If you want to go for a nice country drive to Nashville there is a place called pull a part that is great; go to www.pullapart.com
and there may even be a location closer, I can't remember. They have an accurate to the second online inventory, all the cars are bar coded; they give the years and when you get there it is like wal mart. Great stuff

How do you get to Potts and that other yard on top of Flat Top Mt.? I've been to Soddy Daisy before, but I'm not familiar with the area and don't know where Flat Top Mountain is. I checked the online yellowpages (not the best, but I don't have a Soddy Daisy phonebook) and found a Potts Auto & Salvage in Pikeville. Is this the one you're talking about?
83350Z, thanks for the pullapart link, that's seems like a huge place I'll have to check out if the yards closer to me don't have what I need.
Does anyone know if Dobbins or Bohanon's is open on Sunday?
to get to potts get on highway 27 and head north. you will get to the dunlap dayton split. go left towards dunlap. you are now on highway 111 going up the mountain. get off at the first exit on the right called jones gap road. when you get to the stop sign turn left. the first junkyard is on the right about five miles. the second junkyard which is potts is on the left not far from the first. the first one is visible from the street. potts is not but there is a big sign that says potts in from of the driveway you cant miss it. bad news though i recently heard that potts has gotten rid of alot of his cars so i dont know what he has out there anymore. Good Luck and happy hunting!
