I posted something similar to this in the Classifieds, but I will post here because it's more local.
I'm posting this for my roommate, although I am a long-time third gen fan. My roommate is looking for a driveable project Camaro/Firebird in the Orlando/central Florida area. He prefers Firebirds, but Camaros will do as well.
Must be a V8 car. Manual transmission preferred, but not required. T Tops are a strong plus. He isn't picky about the paint, (even primer is fine) but does want a reasonably solid body, little/no rust, etc. I can handle almost any mechanical job, but body work is not my forte.
So let me know what you have. I think he's willing to spend around $1500-2000, depending on what he gets after selling his Maxima. You can reach me at V8PunkRocket@aol.com and I'll relay any info to him.
Another possibility is this: I have a spare 350 sitting in my Bel Air that I am not going to use, along with a TH350 behind it. If you have a decent F-body sitting around that just needs an engine or tranny, feel free to email me as well.
People do seem to be hanging on to these now. They used to be for sale on every street corner, but no more. Good luck with the search. Orlando is a big area, one should turn up soon.
Keep looking, I just bought an 87 formula t-top runs and drives for $700. 2 mouths ago I bought an 89 2.8 5spd car for $500. I live just north of Orlando. I know where a decent 91 R/S 3.1 auto is for $600 or best offer. Just missed another convertable too. they are out there, you just gotta look behind houses. Good luck in your search.
I have one I'll be selling soon. I dont know if it's in your price range though. It's my '86 IROC, I just put in a fresh 350 LT1 (with a LTR intake on an accel LT1/TPI base) and a solid 4L60-E with a mechanical and electrical VSS so the factory speedo works as well as the PCM getting it's signal. rearend is a 9 bolt from a Camaro with 3.45 gears. Stock wheels and interior (red) in pretty good shape. Body is solid and I have tons of new GM parts including weatherstrip since it was going to get painted next month. Suspension is tight and has new bushings and steering gear. 3/4" lowered in front. Borla catback and hedman longtubes. I have some odds and ends to wrap up on it, but I think it's time for me to get that C5 i've been looking for. i already have one Camaro toy that's about done. Might be out of your price range though. I was going to ask $5000 when it was done. This is with new engine, trans, fresh paint, weatherstripping, hinges, door handles, hood louvers, tires, etc... Car is a t-top car.
I have a 1992 Firebird Formula with a 305 TBI in it and a auto. I took out the interior because it was nasty, no t-tops. No body damage but the motor needs a flexplate. 700 bucks and take it away. Perfect way to start a cool car build. Through 4th gen seats and carpet in it and have a sweet lookin ride.
