Re: any mississippi peeps

If the track is open, parking anywhere is no problem. Of course we might think about a different site that we wouldn't have to pay to get in to or deal with a lot of people. The gates don't open until 3:00PM on Sundays and I'm not sure if they are open on Saturday's without an event.

If we do it on Sunday we could use the parking lot in front of where I work. It's pretty cleared out on Sunday's and right in front of Walmart. Hell for that matter any parking lot on USM is going to be clear Saturday and Sunday.

Re: any mississippi peeps

I can be off for sat or sun.Is there any events on sunday or is it open for test and tune.Is the track there 1/8th or 1/4.It would be cool if there wasnt an event so we could run all we wanted.Do yall think USM would be cool with a bunch of people with camaros hanging out.I`d judt hate to spend half the day driving around half the day looking for a place to meet up.Is the walmart parking lot pretty big.If it is,or another place like the mall there with a large parking lot we could take a far back corner where we would`nt be in the way and make it difficult for anyone to complain.Either day is fine with me,I just want to make it a day we could have the most fun at the track and a good place to hang.We also should have a backup plan incase of bad weather.Just an idea.

Someone who lives in H'burg will have to get that info for us. I didnt think of bad weather. I guess we could go w/ the weekend after incase of bad weather.

Im not to familiar w/ H'burg to figure a place to go. Ill try and give the track a call tomorrow and see what they say about us gathering there. I would also hate to drive around half the day.

Bring whoever you'd like!! The more the merrier. Always willing entertain questions from future thirdgenners. What about the old K-Mart Parking lot??? The place is shut down so That is a big parking lot that would be wide open. not to mention it is right on 98 so it would be easy to find. Right behind Olive Garden, Copeland's, and LongHorn Steakhouse. Can't miss it.

Re: any mississippi peeps

H ey swerve Im on the coast as well, maybe we can met up and see each others rides.

As much as Id love to met on the coast the fair thing to do was pick a more central location for those willing to show up, whoch nis Hattiesburg was chosen and there is a drag strip there.

We also have a website for the MS area. Check it oout join up, and post whatever you like. Its: http://southms3rdgen.wetpaint.com/

Do you know anyone else on the coast w/ a 3rd gen F-body? If so talk to them and see what they think about this clud were trying to start.

Feel free to email me: wheelman_1973@yahoo.com

Re: any mississippi peeps

I thought Hattisburg was closer to the coast than 2 hours.I mean I really dont care where we have it.I got that whole weekend off.Better yet I got july 4th through the 8th off.Hattisbuergs fine with me and so is the coast.Lets remember,no matter where we have it this time,we can have it somewhere else the next time so each time it can be close to some members area.I believe thats a fair.Yes you can lock me in,unless my car blows up or some other unforeseeable crazy crap happens. And sorry again I didnt have very good cell service at all when I was on the river today.

Maybe we should meet somwhere like the K Mart parking lot that 87 earthquake said was closed down. That sounds like a decent Idea to me,but I dont know if anyone would get upset about it since I dont live in hubcity. Then for those that would like to can go to the track and play around some. Even if things fall through withthis I`m off so I`ll meet up with somebody somewhere to try to get this thing started.

Re: any mississippi peeps

Never-minding the fact I can't go if it's not in Hattiesburg, with people from the coast, Jackson, Vicksburg, etc, Hattiesburg is the best location.

If people wanted to drag-race then the track would be good. Friday night is test-&-tune and isn't too busy. Sunday is street grudge racing and can be busy. Saturday's are limited to big events I believe. I don't think a lot of people would want to race, pay to go to a meeting (at least $10), nor would a loud track with a lot of people be the best place for a first meet. I doubt people would want to come at night or at 3:00 (when the track opens on Sunday).

The Kmart parking lot is a really good idea. We wouldn't get ran off and we're only looking at 10-15 cars anyway. Hell the street racers hang out in the Hobby Lobby parking lot every weekend and don't get run off. It's right of I-59 and easy to get to from any direction.

I do suggest we make a new thread stating there is a meet-n-great coming up with the date and location and keep the discussion going there. I'm sure there's some that viewed this thread when it started and wouldn't know if they didn't check back in.

Re: any mississippi peeps

I agree that H'burg is the best since its about the same ride for everyone that might be coming. I dont have a problem w/ it not being at the strip. The K-mart lot sounds like a good idea since it wont be noisy and free.

I guess we could start a new thread so we can get commitment for this met there. Ill go and start a new one and memtion the website I made for us.

Sounds good to me.K mart parking lot. What time of day yall want to try to meet up.The parking lotwill be more quiet and a better place to meet.Good to hear we wont get run off.I would like to go to the track but its no biggie.I`ll go later on in the day after we meet.I dont get many saturdays off and dont get to go to any track very often so I would like to if anyone else wants to go after the meet.Plus its a full 1/4.All the ones in my area are 1/8th,i`d like to see how I do.Like I said no biggie at all.I just wanna get this thing going and I`d like to meet some fellow thirdgenners. So what time yall wanna try and meet.I`m assuming sometime in the AM.Remember it`s gonna be hotter than poo poo.

i finally get to say come tomorrow afternoon i'll officially be a 3rd gen owner again....had a guy stop buy today and wants to trade a 87 trans am gta hardtop tpi 350 100% original and stock exhaust for flowmaster muffler just a tad over 100k miles. needs very little works.....typical squeeks and rattles and spoiler crack, but thats the majority of it. so my 69 c/10 will be gone tomorrow afternoon

Re: any mississippi peeps

yeh, he's supposed to come back tomorrow around 6ish since i have to put the bolts back in on the tranny and hook the lines back up on the pickup (started to pull the trans since it started slipping to throw another in it) and hes gonna take it as it is and put the other trans i got in himself.....yeh im planning on driving it instead of the SS, runs great and everything, but with every car i dont know, i need to do some more driving and check all the little things out before i take it on a little trip, but either way im ready to get it back over here, will be my 2nd transam ever against nearly 15 3rd gen camaros ive owned heh.....and surprisingly enough will be my first tpi 350 cars, versus the few 82-84 z28's ive had that i had put built carbed 350's in, so im feeling like a little kid on christmas morning heh and i'll get some pics tomorrow evening and post em

I had a 3rd gen camaro before I was 20...wound up blowing the engine in it, and getting it replaced with a bunk one... finally wound up wrecking it and selling it to a junk yard.. Never thought I would have another 3rd gen until I got this TA last week. MUCH better than the Camaro I had back when....

Re: any mississippi peeps

Hello all!!

I have been a lurker on this board for a few years now but am originally from MS. I currently live in Belgium though so I havent checked out this part of the board before now. So, I thought I would say hello.

My 89 Trans Am is in Petal right now. Its had quite a bit of work done to it and is about to go under the knife again...all without me there.

Originally, it had a 305 TBI engine, but developed a head gasket leak. I took the opportunity to switch the engine to a carbed 350 from a 1970 Camaro SS. The heads are from a 1972 Corvette LT1. I also have headers and a custom exhaust.

The current mods are going to be switching the rear from the standard 2.73 one wheeler to a 3.42 posi unit. I am also redoing the interior and getting new wheels and tires. I plan to go with 17x.9.5 ZR1 wheels.

I will be home later this summer and get to see my car for the first time in a year and a half. I can hardly wait!!!

Re: any mississippi peeps

Work has brought me to Belgium. I have been here for almost 6 years. I am coming home for a visit this summer (late July/early August) but move back to the US in December. I will be going to Oklahoma then though, but will of course visit MS as that is where my family is and its where I call home.

I would be glad to join up, but I would likely only be an online member simply because of distance. However, any time I could be there I definitely would be.

Are there any upcoming events this summer? Say late July/early August? I will be in Hattiesburg and Natchez around then.

i just took a look at my map book and seen Raymond. when are you guys planning to get together? anytime within the next 3 weeks is bad for me as we just had a family issue and we took a slight hit on funds plus i have 2 scheduled projects to take care of.
and at the end of the month we have inventory. im all about meeting other folks in diff areas and want to make this trip if things allow.

It will be eventually. Tune really needs dialing in and I'm not smart enough to do it. Got to finish getting the a/c hooked back up, but debating switching over to serpentine first. One of my rear calipers is stuck so I'm thinking I just need to get a 12bolt now.

We can all meet on sunday is fine. As long as it isn't the weekend of aug 16/17th then I'm ok with whenever.
