Trying to finish painting inside my house before this weekend when I have everyone over for my birthday. Need to clean up the garage again too. I had it looking good, then I started draging more stuff home and tearing things apart.

it is all plug and play no additional wiring so it will look stock even. i am placing the order this weekend. i figure that for the price i am getting a great deal as a first time thing. if i like is the accel 375+ uses the exact same wiring. but that one doesnt come in a kit. and i hear nothing but good things about the taylor wires.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

I think im going to put in a new egr valve this weekend. I think its what is throwing the code 32 when I could see codes. A sign of it being bad is an extra hot plenum and sence me car was off for 5 hours and theplenum was still pretty hot to the touch I think that could be a strong possibility. But hey what will it hurt changing it. Its 20 years old, probably filled with carbon and they say they go bad in 10 years anyways. I want to check the selonoid but dont have a vacuum tester. So might just replace that too.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

I honestly think the EGR is the main root of your problem. The symptoms you have are similar to what my 88' 1500 did. I ended up turning the EGR off in the chip and putting a block off plate on the intake.

Thats what I want to end up doing to it. For now Ill just fix it though. When I port the plenum thats when I will probably take it off since the plenum will be off.

Mine is already turned off in the EPROM, just havent gotten around to yanking it off yet. I look at it all as weight that is comming off the nose of the car.

I'll be working on the 91' this weekend. Going to install the bigger radiator, and change the plugs to colder 42's. I also picked up some atmosphere in a bottle this afternoon.

Went to autozone and they got my codes to read. Got 32, 34, and 36 again. So I bought a new egr valve plus got 20 dollars off with my reward zone card. Gonna change out the valve saturday.

57 dollars. I just checked the maf and its clean as a whistle so i know burnoff is working but its still throwing the code. Codes have been cleared at least 5 times in the past 2 weeks so it keeps coming back for some reason.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

Don't start throwing parts at it. If that are your codes, feel free to replace EGR. I would also replace the MAF burnoff relay. Then bring it back over and we will set timing, TPS, idle. THOUGH, still need ability to reset idle which requires scanner or paperclip.

We also need to check fuel pressure...

Yea I believe the egr valve is stuck open. I couldnt press on it and make it move at all. I was thinking about getting the new relays too and seeing where that takes me.

My 91' ddin't even throw a code a few months ago. It wouldn't start one morning, nothing I did made it better. Finally found a vacuum leak, still ran like crap after I fixed that. I reset the ECM, fixed! Pissed me off because no matter what I did up until that point - the car wouldn't throw a code of give me a good enough reason to run so poorly. I spent a better part of 2 days chasing that issue w/o much luck.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

Got the new egr valve in. i replaced some hoses that looked a little aged and will need replacement soon anyways so did that. while the tb was off i cleaned all the carbon off that and got some great throttle response from it. the pedal had a stiffness to it which is now gone. i also did the tb coolant bypass since i was in that area.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

when i was troubleshooting my defroster i found that some one had dont the tb coolant bypass. i undid it because of the heat build up i was getting and i wanted the heater in the car working again. then i found out that the heater core was shot and leaking so i had to replace that. and now with a fresh coolant flush and the temps outside reaching the 90*'s car is running great nice and cool.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

I'm having the front end aligned right now. It has developed a horrible vibration through the steering wheel lately. It pulls a little, but not really anything noticable.

When I get it home later, I'm going to flush the cooling system and install the bigger aluminum radiator. The coolant looks like rust, and it's been running a little warm in the afternoon on my way home from work lately.

And somewhere in the middle, I need to weld the axle tubes on the rear I picked up for the 2000. I'm taking the 4.10 rear out and dropping down to 3.73's. 13-14 MPG makes baby jesus cry.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

Now that Ive got a voltmeter thats my step dads i checked the maf sensor and its getting 13.5 volts so i know that that is working. I also reset the tps since i had the tb off the other day. It was at .37v and now at .54v like it should be. at wot it was 3.8v supposed to be 4.0v so im not real concerned about that. slowly but surely im figuring out the codes.

even worse than that i have to take care of 3 seperate rental units that arent mine. consists of 12 units total. when my father in law is on vacation for 5 months out of the year. i got to work come home then find out i have to go show an apt. or talk to a tenant about something dumb. i have to order something though because my summit bucks are going to expire. thinking a little cheaper maybe something along the suspension or even cheaper and just going for an airfoil for the throttle body. dont know yet need to figure out this weekend. well off to work i go.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

Ive had my wisdom teeth taken out. Only good part was all the valium! If anyone wants to go on saturday there is a show at Destination Daytona Harley Shop. Probably will get there myself around 2 or 2:30 so I can get a parking spot. Last time I literally got the last spot.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

A few of the guys from LS1Tech are planning on going in June to that show... I might be able to make it. I have more tuning to do with the 2000, plus I'd like to finally get around to changing the PW motor. I've been trying to find a weekend where I have an extra set of hands available to help me. If I can knock out that stuff, I'll feel better about making the drive out there. It's a hike for me from my side of town.

Well, dropped the 2000 off yesterday to have the 4L60E sorted out. It will be gone for at least a week. Getting MUCH closer to making some shakedown passes. Mike, you down for some track action?

You'll be fine as long as it isn't leaking anything and your seat belt isn't broken.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

Well I replaced my ecm like Mike and John recommended and no problems. My idle is back to normal and most of what I know that came up on the scanner looked correct. And only one code came up which was 36 MAF burnoff which is weird since when I looked at the MAF it looked clean and fine so idk about it. Maybe bad signal coming from the relay?? Now on to an 89 prom to get rid of cold start. Im excited the car is starting to act normal again!

Im down for a track run.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

Swap those relays and see if it is still there. If it is, you could consider a MAF. I think advance or autozone can test them.

That ECM was weird. Thank god you got that scanner. Now you can stop running in circles. You never would have found out without just throwing parts. I was not conviced it was bad till the scanner was showing all kinds of wacky stuff and weird codes. Once you get the MAF code fixed, you can adjust everything. I can help you with that. We'll bump the timing a couple degrees, get the idle set according to specs, and make sure TPS is right on. Each one changes the rest, so you have to keep running in circles....

If you guys go to the track, let me know. I am not going to run mine yet, but I will come and video some and hang out if I can make it...

Re: Volusia County Florida!

Well switched the relays cleard the codes and still got it. plus code 34 maf/map sensor too low is back also. im afraid it might be a bad maf. im running by advance tomorrow to bring the old ecm in so ill ask if they do it and if not to autozone to see. if neither of them do it then to the junkyard and see what i can find.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

You don't have a MAP sensor, so it is the MAF.

Why not? I don't even have a roll bar yet and I want to do some shakedown passes.

Re: Volusia County Florida!

Neither autozone nor advance could test the maf. I put a voltmeter on it like 2 weeks ago and was getting 13volts to the maf itself. I dont know whats going on with it. Makes me think its not a relay since its getting power and the wire is nice and clean so the burnoff is working....
