Re: BAN ONE Firebird and Trans Am show, Atlanta, GA Sep 6
Look forward to seeing you at the show. I'm a little partial to 3rd Gens (Ive owned 2nd, 3rd and 4th Gens) and I think 3rd Gens are the best kept secret.
There will be two 3rd Gen Classes...Stock and Modified with 5 awards for each class, plus a Best 3rd Gen of Show award for a total of 11 specfic awards for 3rd Gens.
Bruce Hawkens of Hawks 3rd Gen's has graciously volenteered to purchase all the 3rd Gen awards.
Hope you can make it and I look forward to seeing you as well as many other 3rd Gens in attendance.
Re: BAN ONE Firebird and Trans Am show, Atlanta, GA Sep 6
Awesome that Hawk's is stepping up and sponsoring the third-gen awards. I saw that there were sponsors for the 2nd and 4th gens, but not the 1st or 3rd.
I love that Jamaica Yellow JWKBride. There's one on ebay right now that has some strange upholstery on the interior, but otherwise looks decent for a 118k car. Wheels are aftermarket, but originals come with it.
I've already marked the date in my book to take off of work for the Ban One show ... hey, what is Ban One anyway?
Oh ... question ... my car is stock except for the L98 I'm dropping in, headers & cat-back and some engine dress-up. Does that qualify as modified? 'Cause I don't stand a chance to win anything in the modified class. Not that I'm coming to win anything anyway. Just want a good time and see some nice cars.

Tnxs for the compliement on my car...I feel lucky to have found it!
Im looking forward to the show and I'm not sure how many cars will be there, especially since this is the 1st time we have put this show on. If I had to guess, weather permitting, I would say 75-100 cars. That said, I have been told by some others to expect 150-200 cars.
We are trying to keep the classes simple and as a rule if you need a wrench to put the part on then it will put you into the modified class. Headers, plated chrome parts, custom wheels, custom interior, custom paint, big speakers, etc will be considered modified.
Things like chrome raditator caps, a battery or fuse block cover, stock size after market radio, shifter ball, tinted windows, after market floor mats, etc will be considered stock.
As far as your chances of winning there will be 11 3rd Gen awards and you will be selected by your peers....so you never know how you will land in the voting...which makes it interesting. Being selected by your peers is quite an honor
BTW, BANONE are the words that were on the vanity plate on the Bandits car in Smokey and the Bandit....I picked that name because it's unique to the Firebird line of cars. If you go to the website, you'll see our show logo is a replica of that license plate except it says 2008 vs 1976
I hope you can make it....as it stands right now we are expecting folks from all over the southeast to attend and have folks as far away as Missouri, Ohio and Maryland stating they plan to attend....
Re: BAN ONE Firebird and Trans Am show, Atlanta, GA Sep 6
As an update, I have received pre-registrations from as far as NC. There has been a total of 79 individuals say they are coming (as of 29 Jul). So far the poll on the site shows there will be the following cars:
1st Gens-3
2nd Gens-37
3rd Gens-18
4th Gens-21
If this holds true we will have a very nice show come Sep 6th! I may have to spring for some more awards!
PS....for those too young to remember BAN ONE was the GA plate on the Bandits car in Smokey and the Bandit The shows logo and dash plaque will look just like the plate below.
Re: BAN ONE Firebird and Trans Am show, Atlanta, GA Sep 6
The general rule is if it takes a wrech to put it on then it's modified....as for wheels if they are stock appearing or from a different model year then no....if they are not stock appearing then yes, you are modified.
In truth, I'm thinking about adding a "Light Modified Class" or breaking the 3rd Gen years down further....say 1982-86 and 87-92. Same for the other Generations....so far I'm estimating about 100 total for the show and of those about 25 3rd Gens.
At the end of the day, I want to avoid having a full blown tech line and want to keep is simple and fun....so I'm leaning toward breaking down the years further....more to follow on the subject
Re: BAN ONE Firebird and Trans Am show, Atlanta, GA Sep 6
Well we are just over a month out and we have folks from all over coming. According to our non-scientific poll we have 102 people say they are coming. The break down is as follows:
I have pre-regestrations from FL, SC, NC, VA and GA....Things are looking good and if the weather holds up, it would not surprize me to see 80-100 cars really show up.....I hope your one of them!
Re: BAN ONE Firebird and Trans Am show, Atlanta, GA Sep 6
Glad I saw this, I live in Augusta, about 2.5hours from Atlanta and I think I'm gonna go ($$ permitting).... I might even enter the show, I think I'd be in the "light modified" class...
Mods so far: MSD Cap and rotor, MSD ignition coil, Accel 8.8mm ignition wires, Hooker Super Comp Shortie Headers, Flowmaster 3in catback, underdrive crank pulley, BBK AFPR, custom cold air intake, NOS wet 125 shot, air foil and a lead foot! E/Ts: 15.4-motor, 14.1-spray. Other mods include keyless entry and remote start, and Sequential Turn Signals. South Carolina ---> www.scfbaonline.com
Re: BAN ONE Firebird and Trans Am show, Atlanta, GA Sep 6
Well we now have two TA's parked inside Summit to promote the show. One of the cars is a 25th Annv TA and the other is a 71 Blue/Blue TA. Never restored, with about 19K miles on the odo.
I pick up the awards Wed/Thurs, Dash plaques are in hand, class parking signs are being made, DJ and food are set....now we just have to keep the fingers crossed for good weather.....whoohoo!
According to the shows website we have 160 cars coming...I suspect in the end it will be about 1/2 that.
