I asked someone in another thread about it but never got a response. Apparently some zip codes in Arizona are "partially" exempt from emissions as of July this year. You can apply for a Code 52 Exemption as long as you don't drive the vehicle to work/school every day. Here's the zip codes that qualify (like mine, w00t!):
Partial Zip Codes in the Vehicle Emissions Control Areas (effective July 2007):
An original Code 52 certificate of exemption must be completed and include the following:
* Photocopy of current vehicle registration for each vehicle
* Photocopy of a current utility bill in the name of the applicant, identifying the physical address of applicant's residence
* Photocopy of the property owner's tax evaluation notice listing the township, range and section of residence
what exactly does "partially" exempt mean though, can i take off the cats, run long tubes, and drop in a 500hp big block in my 92 rs? actually i would be happy withn no cat, smog pump, long tubes, and a carb, cause tbi is ghey

Not happy with your Toilet Bowl Injection?
It means you don't have to go to inspection, but you're supposed to be a good little muscle car owner and run all the smog stuff. Like I only did one day a year until I registered in Kingman.
Now I just have to take the Lightning through inspection. It should pass the sniffer fine, it's got FOUR cats on it.

I'm guessing they don't. The form requires you to list the VIN of your daily, and the VIN of the cars you want exempt. So if you have a Ferrari that'll pass emissions easily, smog that and drive your Iroc every day.
well, in about 3 months my house will be done being built in queen creek, and that is one of those zip codes, and im kinda confused, so i need to leave the smog crap on, or do i remove it and claim it as exempt i tried looking it up online but i found a bunch of junk from alaska
See, I just made sure my mother moved to an emission-exempt area...and registered the maro' there It wouldn't pass emissions if its life depended on it.
Granted right now it can't even pass the line seperating my garage from the driveway...

There's another option. If you get collector car insurance (Hagerty, Grundy etc.) you can be emission exempt. Just registered my 84 Z that way. Limited use of course, not daily driver, not used for backup or running errands.
Are you emmision exempt with the Grundy insurance? The Arizona law is very specific about the limitations that the insurance companys have to put on you to qualify. If Grundy qualifies then I will look into them.
Yes, Grundy policy meets the AZ standards. Grundy will wants pic's of the car through to make sure it is not a beater. I did a complete restore on my car so I had no problems. The policy I have clearly states collector car policy and states I cannot drive the car to work.
