Anyone interested in a C4 Brake Upgrade?

I have most of the hardware necessary to install a C4 Corvette 12" diameter front disc upgrade. Basically the same performance as the 1LE. I have the following:
  • Two Brand New C4 discs.
  • A pair of low mileage C4 calipers
  • A pair of conversion brackets to mount the calipers.

You will need to perform the following operations:
  • Machine off the rotor part of your stock hub
  • Have longer studs installed on your hubs.
  • Saw off ears on your spindle as described in the attached.

Of course, you'll want to install new bearings and seals in your hub. And maybe high performance hoses.

$195 plus shipping. Package will be heavy. That's why I am restricting this offer to SW Region only for now.

How big a wheel do you have to run with this? Any idea if it clears a GTA wheel?

It does clear a GTA wheel. It's pretty much a poor man's 1LE. Same performance but a less expensive route.

Re: Anyone interested in a C4 Brake Upgrade?

When you modify the stock rotor, you are basically trying to make it a hub for which to slip the C4 rotor onto. The result should look like the photo. A lathe would make the job a snap but I've seen good results with a band saw to take off most of the rotor and finish it with a belt sander. Longer studs need to be pressed in to accomodate the width of the C4 rotor. I believe the Dorman studs you need are 610-323. Ed Miller will sell new seals, bearings and braided hoses for $115 last time I inquired. The seals and bearings are nothing special...just the stock 3rd gen parts.

Re: Anyone interested in a C4 Brake Upgrade?

I have a sale pending on my parts but FYI...I was able to adapt a hub for a friend in about 2 hours. He had the studs pressed in at NAPA but I don't know the cost.

Re: Anyone interested in a C4 Brake Upgrade?

Here is the link with the evolution on how this "discovery" was made. It really is the most cost effective way to get larger discs on a third gen. Ed Miller markets the brackets and can set you up with a complete kit. I went the cheaper route. I purchased Ed's brackets and gathered my own parts. I work at a machine shop so although I never got the opportunity to do the modification of the hubs for myself, I did do it for a friend and it was quite simple. I band sawed all but an 1/8" of the rotor off and used a lathe to finish the hub. One guy on this link just band sawed the rotor off and used a grinder to finish. The key point is that if you purchase Ed's brackets, you must use the C4 rear rotors....not the fronts. Then you use the C4 front calipers and hardware.
