NEED HELP! 9-bolt

Hey guys. Need desperate help with my car. Got a 9-bolt 3.27 gear rear from Pick-a-Part and found a few things wrong with it. For one, the pinion bearings were trashed and noisy. Replaced them this past weekend. During the repair, found the pinion and ring gear were not in great shape. I checked the wear pattern on the gears and they were good. The pre-load is set correctly. Inspected all the other bearings and found them to be in good shape. I still have the noise and have pin pointed it to be somewhere around the pinion area. Is there anyone out there locally that may have a 3.27 ring and pinion or possibly a 9-bolt laying around? I don't have much money to be able to spend on it, but I do have quite a few parts I need to get rid of. I would take it without the disc brakes. I will use what I already have on the car. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx.

Chris

I do have and extra set of those gears, unfortuanly the pinoin is toast. the ring gear is in good shape though. have you checked out http://car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi junk yards that list what they have in stock. good luck it took me 3 months to hunt down my axle parts new.

Re: NEED HELP! 9-bolt

Well, there is a place I'm going to check on tomorrow - Ace Auto Recycling. Hopefully they don't want an arm and a leg for it. But could use someone local that has one that they are not using. I would also take a 10-bolt stock posi in its place as long as it has the disc brake mounts.

Re: NEED HELP! 9-bolt

It's a nine bolt. An arm and a leg is HALF of what they want for new parts. It's why I'm giving mine up and getting a 10 bolt.

How fresh are the brakes in the thing? The Delco Morraine Iron Calipers for the rear have a technical issue where the pads will rattle around causing HORRIBLE noises while driving. Just an idea.

Re: NEED HELP! 9-bolt

What type of gears do you have in yours? Also, what parts are you looking for? I found one at Ace Auto Recycling and just got it in tonight. This one actually works great. So now I can either part the other one or sell it as a whole. The only thing it needs now are ring and pinion gears. Anyone interested?

Re: NEED HELP! 9-bolt

I would really like to get rid of this thing as a whole. Harder to part out the thing and still have half of it left and no body wanting it. I wish I could still use it because of the 3.27 gears. The one I put in has 2.77 gears. Nice for highway driving, but would like to get to show off the power. So if anyone interested in the whole thing, let me know. Also, TheScaryOne, what is wrong with yours that you are wanting to change to a 10-bolt? Also, what gears does it have? And Ryan, Thanks for looking out for me. Good to know people here like to help. Also your harness is here if you want to come get it tomorrow. I think the only way to find out what those 2 wires are for is by putting it back in.
